One more Callahan book to the series and this one was a bit strange for me. Several reasons actually. But the first thing that never leaves my mind is the fact Wolf kidnapped River and she was pregnant with three babies. But the worst part was the fact Tighe didn’t do a thing for about three months. Come on, do you have any idea what it takes to a woman body a multiple pregnancy and nobody in the family seemed to care about that.

Also very strange was the fact Tighe had to marry her just because she got pregnant. He was never into the marriage and kids thing, but now is a must for yesterday. Didn’t match his character. And I liked him more before this kidnapping thing. He was more normal and didn’t actually believed the legends and other strange stories. But I just can’t let go the fact they simply let her there. And if I were River, marriage would need to wait until that man groveled enough.

Romance Guest Review: Forever My Girl by Heidi McLaughlin

Forever My Girl (Beaumont, #1)

I was never supposed to be a rock star. I had my life all planned out for me. Play football in college. Go to the NFL. Marry my high school sweetheart and live happily ever after.

I broke both our hearts that day when I told her I was leaving. I was young. I made the right decision for me, but the wrong decision for us. I’ve poured my soul into my music, but I’ve never forgotten her. Her smell, her smile.

And now I’m going back.

After ten years.

I hope I can explain that after all this time.

I still want her to be my forever girl.

Review by Melissa

First book in the Beaumont series, Forever my girl is a story about second chance love. It’s cute,  simple and a fast read. There’s not too much drama and I think it’s more realistic in some situations where you’d expect angst and jealousy to take over the emotions of the characters, making them act foolishly, instead of the mature grown-ups they’re supposed to be. I enjoyed the constant flashbacks of Josie’s and Liam’s high school years, how they fell in love and the activities they did together with their best friends. I found it to be beautiful and almost picture perfect.

But, there were some things I couldn’t slide down concerning the characters’ thoughts and actions. Liam left to pursue his dream, and I’m okay with that. The pressure and high expectations for him was too much when it isn’t something you really want. Yet, there could have been other ways to do it. Communication is of essence here and he clearly wasn’t very good at it (stage and songwriting is a completely different matter, he rocks). He seemed to be too possessive of Josie, always stating “my girl” “my girl” over and over again, when he had no right. And, what I thought to be too perfect was how easily he accepted he had a son with Josie, how he figured it out. He didn’t even doubt it for a second, and I know the kid looked exactly like him, but normal people always doubt this kind of things. Liam was trying TOO hard to have a connection with Josie, a reason to stay close to her and win her back.

On a side note, I heard Forever My Girl has been optioned to be a movie! Despite this book not being one of my all time favorites, I am looking forward to seeing it on the big screen.

Romance Review: A Fool’s Gold Christmas by Susan Mallery

A Fool's Gold Christmas (Fool's Gold #9.5)

The unrelenting cheer in Fool’s Gold, California, is bringing out the humbug in dancer Evie Stryker. She learned early on that Christmas miracles don’t happen, at least not for her. I think the mother-daughter relationship in this book was a little strange and I still don’t understand why people keep finding reasons to explain the way Evie was left behind. her family was busy with something else and nobody thought about her at all and now everyone is thinking she just need to accept them all and live with it. It’s not that simple and they need to learn things do not fall in their lap, because everyone was very successful and Evie was struggling.

I liked the way her relationship with Dante was more friendship and them evolved into sex, because she was in a different town and needed a friend. Her family was her problem so she couldn’t go to them, but Dante was a nice guy and totally listened to her. I liked him and the way he changed his life. Rafe brought him to Fool’s Gold and expected him to just say okay, but it’s a different town and he doesn’t know a soul, so it’s difficult, but he’s a nice guy.

I also loved Christmas in Fool’s Gold, it was very especial and it’s super nice seeing all those couples again.

Advice:

Due to its strong sexual content, this novel is recommended for readers older than 18.

This was a bit different from the other books for me I think. Don’t get me wrong it’s a good book, but she was kidnapped and decided she was in love with those guys. A bit strange since she only knew one of them. It would be different if they had met before, but I didn’t like this part. The sex scenes were great and I liked more of Dominic. He’s the more normal and it’s afraid of the future.

They didn’t shared a normal weekend and this is a extremely difficult situation, but I liked Kinley. She’s a nice girl and totally deserved three hot guys dedicated to her. Her family treated her way to bad and they so need to pay. Kinley never did anything more but is stuck in this strange place because she simply can’t say no to people. Because come on we can all see she has been used and she does nothing about it.

Anyway. I would buy this one for the sexual scenes alone, the story lacked more drama. It was a little to easy for them to kidnaped her and the end was not satisfactory for me.

Another great book in this series, but I still hold a soft spot for Pia and Raul. But this book was a little different because we have also a mother-daughter relationship. If you follow this series this is Charlie book and we all knew she was going to be a difficult one, because of her past and her issues with men. But Clay was a great guy and I didn’t expected him to be so good with emotions and helping Charlie.

So I had my fears with this book, because it sounded like the most dramatic for me, but Clay made things so easy and I liked seeing him with the rest of his family, I always thought they were a little estranged, but they have a very normal relationship and it’s nice seeing them all together. Charlie also has to deal with family, but her mother is a mystery to me, because who treats her daughter like that? I was not in her side, but learned to accepted her.

These two together and fabulous and I loved this couple, but this book didn’t got a five star because of Charlie’s mother. Sorry, but I can’t forgive her that easily. Clay was supper nice and Charlie is very different but also different.

Urban Fantasy Review: Heart of Venom by Jennifer Estep

Heart of Venom (Elemental Assassin, #9)

The hotly anticipated ninth novel in the hugely popular Elemental Assassin series finds Gin Blanco on a dangerous mission to rescue a friend.
When a terror from the past threatens Gin’s friend and body-disposer, Sophia, Gin will stop at nothing to protect her, even if it means walking straight into a killer’s trap. Meanwhile, the rocky romance between Gin and Owen reaches a turning point—can they reunite and rekindle their love? Or will the things Gin has been forced to do in her line of work as the deadly assassin the Spider keep them apart forever? Assuming, that is, she survives long enough to find out…

I love Gin and how protective she is of her friends and adoptive family. Everyone is really important to her and whenever someone she knows is in danger we can clearly see how much it affects her and all the hell she makes to save them. This book was intense and I spent a good portion biting my nails and hoping everything would be okay, but the story also brought some good memories and reminders for Gin of her purpose.

Sophia had some misfortune in the past and until today she is haunted by those memories, we can see she tries to hide and doesn’t trust in just anyone, but this book explained what happened all those years ago and also brought the bad guys back. Sophia was rescued by the Tin Man and that is one of the reasons Gin is so close to the Deveraux sisters.

I liked the action in this book, but for me the best part were the memories and Owen coming back. Don’t get me wrong, he was a bastard but this time he’s trying really hard and I believe Gin deserves a nice romance with a guy that understand her demons and her profession.

So more ARC reviews in the future. Discovered that in the last month my reading habits became very specifics and I’m in love with some romances. Fools Gold and Whiskey Creek are one of my favorites series.
