Summary:

In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there’s a deadly war raging between vampires and their slayers. And there exists a secret band of brothers like no other—six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. And now, a dutiful twin must choose between two lives…

Fiercely loyal to the Black Dagger Brotherhood, Phury has sacrificed himself for the good of the race, becoming the male responsible for keeping the Brotherhood’s bloodlines alive. As Primale of the Chosen, he is obligated to father the sons and daughters who will ensure that the traditions of the race survive, and that there are warriors to fight those who want all vampires extinguished.

As his first mate, the Chosen Cormia wants to win not only his body but his heart for herself. She is drawn to the noble responsibility behind the emotionally scarred male. But Phury has never allowed himself to know pleasure or joy. As the war with the Lessening Society grows grim, tragedy looms over the Brotherhood’s mansion, and Phury must decide between duty and love…

Review:

Phury was never my favorite and this time I was more focused on the side stories than on his. Cormia is a little to nice for Phury, I think he needed someone like Xhex to control him better, especially now that he became an addict. I loved Quinn and John learning more about their new life “together”. Those scenes with Lash were a little intense but worth it. We can clearly see the war is changing and those lessers are becoming more dangerous now that a leader has arisen.

So to me this book deserves a good rating for the developments in the series more than for the leading couple. We can see Rehvenge being important in this story and even Torh returning. So the book is huge and there’s a lot going on but we are never lost and that is something very important to me.

  1. Was not a fan of Fury novel. But then he was never a BDB that caught my attention from the beginning either. Like your thoughts on how you rated it. It makes you wonder if it was meant to have them as couple can not invest in to have readers see the development in the series more.

Phury could be a lot more, he’s such a gentleman and I wanted to see this side of him, but the book took a different direction. For me it was more than just their story.
