Romance Review: The Shadow of Mudflap by Christi Snow and M.F. Smith

The Shadow of Mudflap (Foxtrot Team, #1)

To us, first responders are heroes. But for them, risking their lives is a normal, everyday thing.
Mudflap:
Born the baby of the family, Mudflap has always had something to prove to emerge out of the shadows of his older siblings. He spent eight years as a Special Ops elite sniper and is now a firefighter. But at his heart, he’s just a normal West Texas good old boy who loves his beer, women and football, until the Department of Defense calls him up to say they need his skills again.
Shanae:
Shanae is a first responder of a different sort. She’s a trauma nurse who works on a medical evacuation helicopter team. But while she lives a life full of adrenaline every day, it’s just a cover for her real life, where she hides in the shadows and is secret agent, Shadowfox for the Lubbock Foxtrot Team (LiFT). She’s living the kind of life that most people think exists only in movies and books.
Working for two different branches of the government, Mudflap and Shanae are in a race against time and the terrorists who threaten the very heart of West Texas life, football. They’re working toward the same goal, but find themselves in a confrontation against each other and the lies they’ve each had to hide behind. Can love win out in the end or will the cost be each other and their very lives?
First responders are heroes every day, but this story tells the tale of when they become even more and find love along the way. The key is for them to stay alive so that they can complete their mission and just maybe live happily ever after.
On an ordinary day, they save lives. On an extraordinary day, they save the country.
(All the proceeds from this novel will go to the Lubbock Red Cross.)

Christi does know how to create mayhem in town, Texas always suffer with her attack, but it does makes for better books. It’s always impressive how she can destroy the town she loves, but she makes good stuff with her heroes and this time it wasn’t different. Despise the fact Mudflap is a really strange name, the character is actually a nice fellow. I liked the fact he has some training from his time in the army and that after all those years, he decide to help people after leaving the Army.

Shanae is like Wonder Woman and she does have superpowers, especially with her seduction, but thing I did not understand was her ex acting like a stalker in the book, weird stuff. But Shanae is a nice girl and I liked the fact she’s a spy and a very good one. Mudflap was deceive for a little time, but he picked up real fast. Of course these two made the perfect time, because Mudflap has some training and Shanae is deadly, but we can see during their moments together that these two have some chemistry and really deserve to find some happiness.

I liked the fact Mudflap understands Shanae job and even trust her, that was the best part for me, because we can clearly see this is the important stuff for her. This a shorter novel and I read in one sitting, but the story is full of action, can’t wait for more Foxtrot investigations.

Finally it’s Chris book and we got to see again all the family and cry a little in some points. Let’s face it, this was the most emotional book in the series, maybe because it’s the last one, or maybe because Chris suffered so much and he deserved a happy ending. And I hoping for some babies and weddings and of course and bad guy too.

Maybe I’m lunatic, but Chris has been through a lot in last year and a half, so a do over in a relationship was more than necessary and we all got to see that Julie was also facing a few demons after some stuff happened in her childhood, but these two are so cute together. They helped each other heel and are such nice couple.

I had a few thoughts along the book of who was responsible for the deaths and was so nervous in the last chapters after I realized he would get Julie, I definitely cheering for Chris to show up and save the day. This was my favorite book and I want more of this family, maybe the next generation?

Review: Before the Mission Begins by Christi Snow

Before the Mission Begins (When the Mission Ends, #0.5)

Before his mission began, he went home. 24 hours to say goodbye to his twin sister.
Instead he found her. A girl that was nothing like the one he thought he knew.
They have 24 hours. 24 hours before he deploys on an extremely dangerous mission. 24 hours together in a freak West Texas snowstorm. 24 hours that will have to get them both through the awful next year.
When the resident good-girl decides to take on the visiting bad-boy, 24 hours is all it takes to change their lives forever.
This is the story of the 24 hours that no one knew ever occurred…until now.
The timeline of this novella is set before the When the Mission Ends trilogy occurs, but this book is actually meant to be read between Book #2, Operation: Endeavor, and Book #3, Operation: Endurance.

We’ve met Julie and watched her suffer in book #2. She’s been constantly present in this family, because she’s Cassie best friend, but this novella is actually set before the events of book #1 and no one is aware they had a weekend together.

Chris is a total nice and this showed a more carefree side of him, that we just couldn’t see lately because of his trauma and recovery. I liked him and how good he treated Julie.

The sex was extra special because Julie was a little scarred from her past experiences and this time she just wanted to like it for a bit and Chris was super sweet and attentive with her. He even calls her Butterfly. Cute!!

Review: Operation: Endeavor by Christi Snow

Operation: Endeavor (When the Mission Ends, #2)

Colton Robertson left his career in the Air Force…

… to come home and help his family heal. Unfortunately, his reception was not quite what he’d hoped for and he ended up as roommate to hippy dippy yoga instructor Penelope Pruitt.

Penelope has spent her life under the restrictive thumb of her parents and she doesn’t want to do the same with the straight-laced, serious Colton. But when it becomes apparent that Penelope’s life is in danger, Colton won’t settle for anyone else protecting Penelope besides him.

Opposites attract and that’s definitely the case with Colton and Penelope. On the surface, they don’t have anything in common, but as the sparks fly and the danger ramps up, their passion is inevitable.

This is the second book and we all met Colton and Penelope during the adventures of Operation: Endurance, but I never thought these two would actually be a great couple. It took me by surprise these couples and even after the whole book and some serious kinky sex is strange to see Colton let go so much of control. I always though he would this great Dom with some naughty girl by his side.

But Penelope was even better than I hoped for because she’s way more than a little bookstore owner and it’s actually a very naughty girl with some great ideas for spicy things up in the bedroom and after reading everything Colton has been through in life he needed a girl to let him just enjoy life for a bit.

It was another great suspense and I never would have guessed the real bad guy. But Colton was actually really good at protecting Penelope and it showed how much these were great together. I liked the family problems that united these two. It made them more real and the relationship was better grounded.

Overall it’s a really intense book and I couldn’t put it down.

It’s been six months.
Six months since Jake Madsen let Chris Robertson die.
Six months since the passion between Jake and Cassie, Chris’ sister, stepped over the line.
But now Cassie’s being stalked and it’s time for Jake to swallow his guilt, grief, and lust so he can save her life, even if it’s a life without him. He owes it to his dead friend and he owes it to Cassie. He’s fallen in love with her, but she doesn’t have to know that for him to keep her safe.

I love a good Romance when there’s some action on the background, it makes things more real and the present always sounds like the best time to act and reveal the feelings for another character.

This book was on my wishlist simply because I follow the author blog and after seeing this gorgeous cover for the first time, he managed to became interesting, but after Christi asked me if I wanted a review copy, we can all guess I jumped on the opportunity. And that was the first time I actually read the series summary and knew those characters were going to make me swoon.

The book gives us two perspectives: one is from the past and it’s set 20 years ago, but explain how the characters met and why is so important their friendship; the other is present and where all the dangerous is happening.

The book started with Chris death and this affected his family and friends. We can see Cassie and Jake together for the first time and also the stalker shows up for a sec. But everything really took a turn for the worst six months after Chris funeral and Jake discovered Cassie was in dangerous.

I liked Cassie and how strong and determined she is, especially with three older guys bossing in her she still managed to be a professional and beautiful girl.

But Jake was not so great for me. He was unsure what to do with his life and afraid to follow in his love because of a friendship but the problem is how he just flipped one night and it was like a complete different person. But he was always protective of Cassie and I understand he’s conflict, but the change was to fast for me and I was hoping for a bit seduction before he relented.

The action scenes were really great and it felt like so real, that I connected why Cassie anguish and Jake terror.
