Summary:

On one of the city’s hottest nights, New York Police Lieutenant Eve Dallas is sent to Central Park-and into a hellish new investigation. The victim is found on the rocks, just above the still, dark water of the lake. Around her neck is a single red ribbon. Her hands are posed, as if in prayer. But it is the eyes-removed with such precision, as if done with the careful hands of a surgeon-that have Dallas most alarmed.

As more bodies turn up, each with the same defining scars, Eve is frantic for answers. Against her instincts, she accepts help from a psychic who offers one vision after another-each with shockingly accurate details of the murders. And when partner and friend Peabody is badly injured after escaping an attack, the stakes are raised. Are the eyes a symbol? A twisted religious ritual? A souvenir? With help from her husband, Roarke, Dallas must uncover the killer’s motivation before another vision becomes another nightmare…

Review:

When I started this series earlier this year mystery was not a genre that I followed, but ever since Eve made me love a good investigation and I added several other books to my growing pile, but nothing is better than a good dose of Eve and Roarke. The last book was a little difficult for these two and thank god this one was more simple.

There was a lot of drama and Eve suffered for Peabody, but the investigation was perfect. I wasn’t really in favor of the visions in this case and Eve was so right in all her deductions that at moments I actually thought she had a gift, but the killings were brutal and Eve managed just fine to keep everything away.

Another great book for this series and Roarke was merely a sidekick in this one. Pity.

Summary:

Found alone on the streets as a child, Eve Dallas has built a new identity and a new future as a cop. Now the hard-edged and coolheaded detective fights for truth and justice, but she still has one very human weakness-enigmatic Irish billionaire, Roarke. And when a trusted employee of Roarke Enterprises is a suspect in a double-homicide, Roarke comes to Eve for help.

Reva Ewing was a former member of the Secret Service, and now a security specialist for Roarke Enterprises-until she was found standing over the dead bodies of her husband, renowned artist Blair Bissel, and her best friend. But Lieutenant Eve Dallas believes there was more to the killing than jealous rage-all of Bissel’s computer files were deliberately corrupted. To Roarke, it’s the computer attack that poses the real threat. He and Reva have been under a code-red government contract to develop a program that would shield against techno-terrorists. But this deadly new breed of hackers isn’t afraid to kill to protect their secret-and it’s up to Lieutenant Eve Dallas to shut them down before the nightmare can spread to the whole country.

Review:

This book was a difficult one for Eve and Roarke, because they had a huge argument and I was concerned for a moment about their relationship. I liked the idea of showing they are normal people and fight just like everybody else. Eve had a hard time with this case because she discovered a few things about her past and how things could be a little different.

The case was difficult too, because involved a government agency, HSO, and of course they had a few issues with sharing, plus Eve was trying to help a friend of Roarke, the girl wasn’t guilt, but someone went to a lot of trouble to make it look like that. I liked the case, it was different and very dangerous for Eve. Her car suffered again.

This is only a novella but it actually took me awhile to really get into the story, maybe because this is book two and I had no idea at first, but Eve was very fast in discovering the killer and following the evidences. I just never really got to the case, I think.

This is the follow up in a heist case od diamonds and a quarter was disappeared for years, but now one of the heirs decided to write a story and a crazy person is killing to get information and steal the diamonds. So Eve is following the leads and now Peabody is her partner since she made detective, but I actually didn’t see any difference, she’s more a shadow than anything in this case.

Roarke is once again helping but their relationship wasn’t very commented on this novella. So not a complete failure, because is an Eve investigation, but it was just an okay book for me.

Mystery Review: Imitation in Death by JD Robb

Imitation in Death (In Death, #17)

Police Lieutenant Eve Dallas encounters one of her most difficult cases in this latest offering from J. D. Robb, alter ego of bestselling author Nora Roberts. With the very first victim, Eve realizes that the killer stalking the streets of New York City isn’t a run-of-the-mill serial murderer. The copycat executions are imitating the methods and victim choices of an ominous list of notorious serial killers, beginning with Jack the Ripper. And when the killer leaves a distinctive note at the crime scene, it’s clear that he’s targeting Eve personally–a fact that worries Roarke, Eve’s shrewd husband.

Assisted by her aide, Peabody, Eve compiles a list of suspects that includes several high-profile possibilities. Their very prominence, however, complicates the investigation, for they have the power and influence to make the search difficult. All of the suspects are reluctant to cooperate but one of them is playing with Eve like a cat with a mouse by tempting her with crime scene notes and challenging her to find him. Can Eve stop him before he slaughters again? Or will his next victim be Eve herself?

Another great investigation and more drama in the Roarke manor. This book was different than the rest because Eve knew the killer from the beginning on a feeling after the first interview, but of course politics were in the way and she had to follow the law by the book and tried really hard to pin the murders on this very important killer.

Since he was like a copycat, Eve already had an idea about the victims and the murder weapon in the cases, but it was still very difficult for her to watch more innocent people get killed by a lunatic. I liked how the investigation led to different states, it’s always funny seeing Eve and Roarke traveling in style and she loves to fight him about it.

Also another difficult thing was the fact Roarke was pretty positive Eve was supposed to be another victim by this killer and was very nervous about her life, but that didn’t really change her way, because as she always answer, it’s just her duty.

Anyway another great book and I can’t get enough with this couple. So cute together.

Mystery Review: Portrait in Death by JD Robb

Portrait in Death (In Death, #16)

After a tip from a reporter, Eve Dallas finds the body of a young woman in a Delancey Street dumpster. Just hours before, the news station had mysteriously received a portfolio of professional portraits of the woman. The photos seemed to be nothing out of the ordinary for any pretty young woman starting a modeling career. Except that she wasn’t a model. And that these photos were taken after she had been murdered. Now Dallas is on the trail of a killer who’s a perfectionist and an artist. He carefully observes and records his victim’s every move. And he has a mission: to own every beautiful young woman’s innocence, to capture her youth and vitality – in one fateful shot…

This book was a little more emotional than the previous because we can finally see more of Roarke past and he discovered a few stories about his mother and how bad his father actually was, but I liked him finding hew things and for the first time looking for his family, it was really nice and touching, but the way he acted with Eve was really bad, because he’s always in her face to say something about her dreams, but when he has something bothering he just lash out.

I liked the investigation and how seeing how much Peabody has grow in her investigative skill. We can see this is a difficult case, but Eve is handling everything by the book. Plus deaths of young adults is always really difficult. But I liked the directions this book decided to lead us. Another great thing is seeing Eve trying to understand her relationship with Nadine. She’s never sure what to do or say behind cameras.

Mystery Review: Purity in Death by JD Robb

Purity in Death (In Death, #15)

Louie Cogburn had spent three days holed up in his apartment, staring at his computer screen. His pounding headache was unbearable – like spikes drilling into his brain. And it was getting worse. Finally, when someone knocked at his door, Louie picked up a baseball bat, opened the door, and started swinging… The first cop on the scene fired his stunner twice and Louie died instantly. Detective Eve Dallas has taken over the investigation, but there’s nothing to explain the man’s sudden rage or death. The only clue is a bizarre message left on his computer screen: Absolute Purity Achieved. And when a second man dies under nearly identical circumstances, Dallas starts racking her brain for answers and for courage to face the impossible…that this might be a computer virus able to spread from machine to man…

I guess everyone knows how much I fell in love with this series. It’s so much fun following the next case and discovering more about Eve and Roarke wedding. But this book caught me real bad and left me reading way into the night.

It’s really interesting how much I have listening to an audiobook and talking back, like no you didn’t and Eve never disappoints, but the best part was the drama and how much these guys look like a family. Eve never had a real family, but she discovered a really eclectic one with people that love her and would do anything to stop a crime.

I liked the investigation and following McNabb while he fought his demons was so emotional. Plus we got to see a few people from older crimes and  a few of them were a very important part of this. I really liked Roarke teaching the kid and he showed some great potential for fatherhood. Can’t wait for them to have a kid!

Mystery Review: Reunion in Death by JD Robb

Reunion in Death (In Death, #14)

At exactly 7:30 p.m., Walter Pettibone arrived home to over a hundred friends and family shouting, "surprise!" It was his birthday. Although he had known about the planned event for weeks, the real surprise was yet to come. At 8:45 p.m., a woman with emerald eyes and red hair handed him a glass of champagne. One sip of birthday bubbly, and he was dead. The woman’s name is Julie Dockport. No one at the party knew who she was. But Detective Eve Dallas remembers her all too well. Eve was personally responsible for her incarceration nearly ten years ago. And now, let out on good behavior, she still has nothing but bad intentions. It appears she wants to meet Dallas again – in a reunion neither will forget… "Edgy [and] sexy."-Publishers Weekly

So revenge is usually a good theme to start a book and taking in consideration for how long Eve is working with the NYPSD is fairly simple some bastard would try to get a piece of the best detective, but now she kinda have a little something to lose, or better yet a big something named Roarke that doesn’t like to be followed and makes things more difficult.

So this book is all about revenge and how much the system has flaws. Eve did her best to put Julie behind bars and the system let her out and now she decided to start a little game with the best cop ever and the only one able to get her.

So I liked this book, I really liked but Eve and Roarke makes things so easy for us to love, especially when he’s taking care of her and making everything better. Plus this is their first anniversary and things are complicated, but I actually loved how romantic he is and Eve is learning a bit of how to shop for presents and gave Roarke a very nice gift.

Oh, I almost forgot. Dallas was a mess after everything happened with her in that hotel room and she is starting to relive those things, plus they visited Texas for the case.
