Paranormal Review and Giveaway: Darker After Midnight by Lara Adrian

Darker After Midnight (Midnight Breed, #10)

The climactic novel in the bestselling Midnight Breed series, of which BookPage raves: “If you like romance combined with heart-stopping paranormal suspense, you’re going to love this book.”
In the dark of night, a blood war escalates within the hidden world of the Breed. After maintaining a fragile peace with the humans who walk beside them unaware, a single act of retaliation has put the vampire nation at risk of discovery. It falls to the Order—a cadre of Breed warriors pledged to protect their own and humankind alike—to stop Dragos, the power-mad vampire, before his push for domination explodes into catastrophe.
At the center of the Order’s quest is Sterling Chase, whose biggest battle is the one he wages against his own savage nature. But when his eyes meet those of Tavia Fairchild, Chase finds himself drawn to the woman—and convinced she is something much more than she seems. And while everything logical warns Tavia against getting close to Chase, she cannot deny that he stirs something ravenous within her. As the Order’s enemy mobilizes for the battle of the ages, Chase and Tavia are thrust into the heart of the violence. With time running out, they must find a way to defeat Dragos once and for all—or die trying.

Advice:

Due to its strong sexual content, this novel is recommended for readers older than 18.

it has been a little while for me since the last full novel and I missed this world, but I also forgot a few things. This is definitely not a stand alone because the story continues pretty much exactly where Deeper than Midnight ended. We get to see all those couples again and even some kids now. But the best part for me was Harvard finally getting the girl. I was getting concerned after the way his character was losing control to the bloodlust, but I believe Tavia is perfect for him.

Tavia was a surprise for me because she was not a little robot, especially after seeing her feelings for Chase. She gave the wrong impression since the beginning but she’s actually a really nice girl and was used for so long that her thoughts and her mind are not her own. Dragos is of course behind this and I liked this new plot. We can definitely see more of Tavia and her sisters in the future.

I liked the new twist for this book. Dragos is getting darker and finally putting his plans in motion, but the worst part is the bloodlust. I see why Dragos thought it was necessary, but things got way out of hand and the Order could have planned better think.

The sole reason this book didn’t got a 5 star rating was the end. Way to simple and easy, after all those years Dragos was defeated too fast and the humanity accepted things way to easily. I can’t wait to see more of this new future.

Why I Started This Book:

I’ve read great things about this series. My first book from Lara Adrian and she is already on my favorite authors list. I do love some vampires books, and when they’re sexy is a plus.

Summary:

Insatiable desire. Endless Seduction. One touch is just the beginning
He watches her from across the crowded dance club, a sensual black-haired stranger who stirs Gabrielle Maxwell’s deepest fantasies. But nothing about this night–or this man–is what it seems. For when Gabrielle witnesses a murder outside the club, reality shifts into something dark and deadly. In that shattering instant she is thrust into a realm she never knew existed–a realm where vampires stalk the shadows and a blood war is set to ignite.

Lucan Thorne despises the violence carried out by his lawless brethren. A vampire himself, Lucan is a Breed warrior, sworn to protect his kind–and the unwitting humans existing alongside them–from the mounting threat of the Rogues. Lucan cannot risk binding himself to a mortal woman, but when Gabrielle is targeted by his enemies, he has no choice but to bring her into the dark underworld he commands.

Here, in the arms of the Breed’s formidable leader, Gabrielle will confront an extraordinary destiny of danger, seduction, and the darkest pleasures of all…

Characters:

My Thoughts:

Lucan is irresistible, a sexy, very old, with a dark past and secrets off his on. The book explain about the past and how Lucan has dealt with his father and others vampires aliens. That’s right, the first vampires were originally aliens and after arriving on earth and starting to destroy the population by their bloodlust and sexual desires.

Lucan was a son from this aliens vampires, and is considered a gen one vampire, from first genaration. After seeing what the aliens were capable off, he created a group of Breed to destroy this evil from earth.

Years after that he is still part of that group, and continuous to protect the humans and others Breed from Rogues, vampires who gave in to the blodlust, that way killing they’re victin after drinking their blood.

One night during a patrol in the city Lucan destroy a group of rogues outside a party and that’s when he meets Gabrielle.

Gabrielle has been out with her friends celebrating the big sucess of her pictures, when she watchs a group of rogues killing a human, and after that her life is in dangerous cause they know she is not just a human.

Lucan needs to watch over Gabrielle to make sure she stays alive, and thats when they start to have fellings for each other. Lucan fights against it, because of his past and Gabrielle discover a new world a very different life, and start to understand the danger of everything.

I loved how this book introduced the other members of the group and this is a very recommended serie.

You Might Enjoy This Book If:

The thruth is that I find this series is very simmilar with Black Dagger Brotherhood, both are vampires and fight to keep humans without knowing their existance but keep then save. At least that’s what I think. But I like them both.

Favorite Quotes:

You just promised me eternity, you know. I can make you live to regret it.

Maybe she should cut the guy a little slack, […] Maybe Thorne had been a no-show because something bad happened to him on the job.

What if he’d been injured in the line of duty and didn’t come by as promised because he was incapacitated in some way? Maybe he hadn’t called to apologize or to explain his absence because he physically couldn’t.

Right. And maybe she had checked her brain into her panties from the second she first laid eyes on the man.

This week I started by reading Shades of Midnight, book #7 on Midnight Breed series by Lara Adrian.

In a frozen wilderness steeped in darkness, the lines between good and evil, lover and enemy, are never black or white but drawn in Shades of Midnight.
Something inhuman is stalking the frigid Alaskan wilds, leaving unspeakable carnage in its wake. For bush pilot Alexandra Maguire, the killings stir memories of a horrific event she witnessed as a child and evoke in her the inexplicable sense of otherness she has long felt within herself but never fully understood . . . until a darkly seductive stranger with secrets of his own enters her world.
Sent from Boston on a mission to investigate the savage attacks and stop the slaughter, vampire warrior Kade has his own reasons for returning to the frigid, forbidding place of his birth. Haunted by a secret shame, Kade soon realizes the stunning truth of the threat he faces–a threat that will jeopardize the fragile bond he has formed with the courageous, determined young woman who arouses his deepest passions and most primal hungers. But in bringing Alex into his world of blood and darkness, Kade must confront both his own personal demons and the even greater evil that could destroy all he holds dear.

Cover reveal for Midnight Breed series!

Hey guys I follow Lara Adrian on facebook, you should too, and yesterday she gave us this little pic.
It’s the Darker after Midnight printed cover mock-up.
This is what she said:

Lookee what I got on Friday — the printed cover mock-up for DARKER AFTER MIDNIGHT! Whenever I get a new cover flat, I wrap it around an existing book to see how it will look “for real”. Here’s DARKER wrapped around a Dan Brown book (hey, why not?) And FYI, the finished wordcount on DARKER was 123k+. Usually my books weigh in around 100k, so this one? It’s HUGE! Happy weekend, all! ♥ Lara
I loved the cover and it follows with the same theme as the other books. This is Chase book and so far the release date is January 19th 2012.
Here is the summary:
In the dark of night, a blood war escalates within the hidden world of the Breed. After existing in secret for many long centuries, maintaining a fragile peace with the humans who walk beside them unaware, a single act of retaliation has put the entire vampire nation at risk of discovery. It falls to the Order—a cadre of Breed warriors pledged to protect their own and humankind alike—to stop Dragos, the power-mad vampire at the center of the conflict, before his push for domination can explode into catastrophe.

At the center of the Order’s quest is Sterling Chase, once a morally rigid enforcer of Breed law, now a warrior fallen from grace, whose biggest battle is the one he wages against his own savage nature. With addiction beckoning him toward eternal darkness, Chase’s path to redemption has never seemed more out of reach. But when his eyes meet those of Tavia Fairchild, a beautiful witness who identifies him at the scene of a mission gone terribly wrong, Chase finds himself drawn to the woman—and convinced she is something much more than she seems.

Pulled into a vortex of intrigue and danger she can neither resist nor understand, Tavia is uncertain whom to trust. And while everything sane and logical warns her against getting close to Chase, she cannot deny that the handsome, deeply haunted male stirs something primal and ravenous within her. But even as she surrenders to her cravings, nothing can prepare her for the shattering truth of who—and what—she truly is.

As the Order’s enemy mobilizes for the battle of the ages, Dragos and his Minions unleashing a hell on Earth like nothing ever seen before, Chase and Tavia are thrust into the heart of the violence. With time running out and the streets running red with the blood of innocent lives, both Breed and human, together Chase and Tavia must find a way to defeat Dragos once and for all—or die trying.
