Mystery Review: Imitation in Death by JD Robb

Imitation in Death (In Death, #17)

Police Lieutenant Eve Dallas encounters one of her most difficult cases in this latest offering from J. D. Robb, alter ego of bestselling author Nora Roberts. With the very first victim, Eve realizes that the killer stalking the streets of New York City isn’t a run-of-the-mill serial murderer. The copycat executions are imitating the methods and victim choices of an ominous list of notorious serial killers, beginning with Jack the Ripper. And when the killer leaves a distinctive note at the crime scene, it’s clear that he’s targeting Eve personally–a fact that worries Roarke, Eve’s shrewd husband.

Assisted by her aide, Peabody, Eve compiles a list of suspects that includes several high-profile possibilities. Their very prominence, however, complicates the investigation, for they have the power and influence to make the search difficult. All of the suspects are reluctant to cooperate but one of them is playing with Eve like a cat with a mouse by tempting her with crime scene notes and challenging her to find him. Can Eve stop him before he slaughters again? Or will his next victim be Eve herself?

Another great investigation and more drama in the Roarke manor. This book was different than the rest because Eve knew the killer from the beginning on a feeling after the first interview, but of course politics were in the way and she had to follow the law by the book and tried really hard to pin the murders on this very important killer.

Since he was like a copycat, Eve already had an idea about the victims and the murder weapon in the cases, but it was still very difficult for her to watch more innocent people get killed by a lunatic. I liked how the investigation led to different states, it’s always funny seeing Eve and Roarke traveling in style and she loves to fight him about it.

Also another difficult thing was the fact Roarke was pretty positive Eve was supposed to be another victim by this killer and was very nervous about her life, but that didn’t really change her way, because as she always answer, it’s just her duty.

Anyway another great book and I can’t get enough with this couple. So cute together.

Judgment in Death (In Death, #11)

1 MP3-CD / 11 hours
In an uptown strip joint, a cop is found bludgeoned to death. The weapon’s a baseball bat. The motive’s a mystery. It’s a case of serious overkill that pushes Eve Dallas straight into overdrive. Her investigation uncovers a private club that’s more than a hot spot. Purgatory’s a last chance for atonement where everyone is judged. Where your most intimate fate depends on your most intimate sins. And where one cop’s hidden secrets are about to plunge innocent souls into vice-ridden damnation…

A cop is death and as always justice has to be made, but the worst part was the place, of course Roarke installments. Eve was first one scene and discovered more than just a robbery, but also started to investigate more than just a death person.

Turns out to be more than just one cop when a series of deaths were connected and Eve discovered they weren’t exactly exemplar cops, they took bribe and were part of a scheme on the Illegal’s, So Eve had to follow more than just the money and found out a old pal of Roarke, form his previous earlier years while his life was not so legal, looks to be involved in those killings even if only by a far shot.

This was a darker book, because Eve had to see a different side of Roarke and they had an argument related to the investigation and the dangers her life could be at the moment. Don’t get me wrong I love Roarke and how insanely in love he is, but sometimes a person has to draw a line and just say what’s wrong.

I like how Eve is starting to trust more in her friends and we also got to see Dr Mira helping. Super cute.

This was a different case, because nothing was reality and Eve had to discover the lies and the truths in those testimonies. I liked the place was set and it was really insane watching the guy die on center stage, while of course Eve was watching the play herself.

It was a difficult book for me because Eve had a hard time discovering who actually planed the dead, but worst of all was how much this pained her and messed with her personal life because she discovered Nadine had a relationship with the first victim and he wasn’t a good guy.

I liked the investigation and the fact Eve was smarter than the killer, but she also showed a great deal of talent for manipulation and it was nice watching her and Roarke once again.

This book was intense because Eve worked extra hard and even had to deal with marital problems. So had her plate full and her attention was being pulled from all around, for the first time I saw Eve taking a pill from her own choice, so you can see how bad it is.

The story was more like suspense with serious political crap and Eve had to deal with threats and explosions, during almost a week. I liked the way she tried to connect the dots and investigate at the same time a few cases that she thought were a bit strange.

So Eve and Roarke had a few bad moments but I blame the case, because it was really serious and the bastards were attacking properties that Roarke was involved, since the guy owns almost all New York. But it fell like Eve was taking extremely hard because of some things that took place during the book, so I won’t spoiler. But I liked seeing these two showing some emotions outside the bedroom.

Review: Holiday In Death by JD Robb

Holiday in Death (In Death, #7)

1 MP3-CD / 9 hours, 46 minutes

In the seventh of J.D. Robb’s futuristic romance thrillers, NYPD Lieutenant Eve Dallas is on the trail of a serial killer terrorizing the city during the holidays. The only link between the victims—all are patrons of an exclusive dating service, Personally Yours. Working with her aide Officer Peabody, Peabody’s nemesis Ian McNab, and her own intriguing husband, Roarke, Eve uncovers secrets that link the victims: secrets that involve both the owners and the clients of Personally Yours and which might be worth killing for. Whether she’s writing as Nora Roberts or as J.D. Robb, Roberts weaves a taut and powerful story with lush sensuality and masterful characterization. This murder mystery combines elements of romance, science fiction, and police procedural genres in an entertaining mix that will keep readers turning the pages.

Holiday season for Eve and Roarke, but murderers never take a break and this is the first real case Eve is handling after her disability retreat. Yes, Eve is fine after the bastard tried to kill her and now she’s tired of staying home, so she returned to work three weeks after almost dying and is ready to jump on the next investigation.

But this serial killer is attacking people almost at random and it took some time for Eve to connect the deaths and even longer to actually discover who did it. I liked this investigation and Eve suffered a lot during this case because the homicides were not simple and the victims were raped before strangulation.

So is a little close to home for Eve to investigate this, and it took a big effort for her to discover clues and follow the pieces. Also Eve is struggling with her first Christmas in the mansion and Roarke is all about parties and presents.

I liked to see this different side of Eve and the case was very distinct too.

Difficult case for Eve because she had to investigate a fellow cop and ended up in the middle of a crazy cult of the devil. This book was more dark than the previous because I didn’t predicted Roarke as a believer and Eve discovered there are more dangerous people in the world than just the regular murders.

The case was different and became more personal after a body was dumped in Eve and Roarke house. But I liked the twist and how Eve had to overcome a few problems along the way to actually discover the responsible, plus Peabody is now a regular aide and we got to see a little of her past.

Another great audiobook and I’m trilled with this series.

The book started with Eve and Roarke honeymoon and I thought things would be okay for a chapter at least, but I was wrong and Eve had to deal with a dead body off planet. It wasn’t a homicide, but after a short while another suicide showed up with a very strange pattern in the brain and Eve decided to investigate because it was looking more like a homicide than ever.

I liked the fact Eve was more sure of herself and her relationship with Roarke. It’s getting easier for her to accept her feelings and how much she needs him. I liked to see this different side of her with lots of emotions and being more human.

The case was a nightmare for Eve because nobody believed her theory about the murders and she had to create a case against a Roarke product again, because he owns the world it seams.

It was a great book and I liked Eve following her instincts again.
