2014 NetGalley Challenge

January 1, 2014 – December 31, 2014

This reading challenge is hosted by For the love of Bookends. For more information and to sign-up, please see this post.

Since there’s not much in this challenge, only read those NetGalleys books, I decided to really commit and read 52 books this year. Just to clear that big pile.

A December Bride (A Year of Weddings, #1) A January Bride (A Year of Weddings, #2) A February Bride (A Year of Weddings) A March Bride (A Year of Weddings) Killer Frost (Mythos Academy, #6) Misbehaving Bared (Club Sin, #2)

2014 TBR Pile Challenge

January 1, 2014 – December 31, 2014

About:

Hooray! It’s that special time of year for us bookish souls; the time when we’re all frantically scanning the book blog-o-sphere for challenges that we might want to compete in next year.  So, I am pleased to announce that I am hosting theFIFTH ANNUAL “TBR Pile Challenge!”

This  challenge was started after I realized I had such an issue buying books but never reading them (not because I don’t read – but because I have such a book buying problem!). So, year after year, books would sit on my shelf, untouched, and I would end up reading newer ones first. I realized I was missing out on a lot of great books because I let them sit there gathering dust instead of reading them as I bought them.

The Goal: To finally read 12 books from your “to be read” pile (within 12 months).

Specifics:

1. Each of these 12 books must have been on your bookshelf or “To Be Read” list for AT LEAST one full year. This means the book cannot have a publication date of 1/1/2013 or later (any book published in the year 2012 or earlier qualifies, as long as it has been on your TBR pile – I WILL be checking publication dates). Caveat: Two (2) alternates are allowed, just in case one or two of the books end up in the “can’t get through” pile.

2. To be eligible, you must sign-up with Mr. Linky below – link to your list (so create it ahead of time!) and add updated links to each book’s review. Books must be read and must be reviewed (doesn’t have to be too fancy) in order to count as completed.

3. The link you post in the Mr. Linky below must be to your “master list” (see mine below). This is where you will keep track of your books completed, crossing them out and/or dating them as you go along, and updating the list with the links to each review (so there’s one easy, convenient way to find your list and all your reviews for the challenge). See THIS LINK for an idea of what I mean. Your complete and final list must be posted by January 15th, 2014.

4. Leave comments on this post as you go along, to update us on your status. Come back here if/when you complete this challenge and leave a commentindicating that you CONQUERED YOUR 2014 TBR LIST! Every person who successfully reads his/her 12 books and/or alternates (and who provides a working link to their list, which has links to the review locations) will be entered to win a $50 gift card from Amazon.com or The Book Depository!

5. Crossovers from other challenges are totally acceptable, as long as you have never read the book before and it was published before 2013!

*Note – You can read the books on your list in any order; they do not need to be read in the order you have them listed. As you complete a book – review it, and go back to your original list and turn that title into a link to the review– that will keep the comments section here from getting ridiculously cluttered. For an example of what I mean, Click Here.

Monthly Check-Ins: On the 15th of each month, I’m going to post a “TBR Pile Check-In.” This will allow participants to link-up their reviews from the past month and get some recognition for their progress. There will also be small mini-challenges and giveaways to go along with these posts (Such As: Read 6 books by the June Check-in and be entered to win a book of your choice!). I’m hoping this will help to keep us all on track and make the challenge a bit more engaging/interactive. I started these mini-challenges last year, and I think they were a great success, so I am continuing them this year!

Chat: On Twitter, Instagram & Facebook, use #TBRChallengeRBR

This reading challenge is hosted by Roof Beam Reader. For more information and to sign-up, please see this post.

I still need to stop and pick those books, but I think they will be from read alongs that I’m following and some other TBR oldies.

  3. This Side of the Grave by Jeaniene Frost

2014 Netgalley & Edelweiss Reading Challenge

January 1, 2014 – December 31, 2014

Have you ever logged on to Edelweiss or Netgalley with the intention of “Just Looking” and then logging off  having requested 5 new titles even though your TBR is a mile long? Inspired by Netgalley November the 2014 Netgalley & Edelweiss Reading Challenge will (hopefully) give you the incentive to tackle your review books, stumble upon new ones, and get your Netgalley percentage to the desired 80%!

Challenge Guidelines

  • This challenge will run from Jan 1, 2014 – Dec 31, 2014.
  • Anyone is welcome to join. You do not need to be a blogger, just post your reviews and come back every month to link them up.
  • Any genre, release date, request date, length, etc. counts so long as it came from Edelweiss or Netgalley.
  • At the beginning of each month there will be a roundup post for you to add your reviews.
  • If you forget to link up one month it’s not a problem just add your reviews next month.
  • If you would like to move up or down levels that is completely fine and at your discretion
  • Throughout the year there will be giveaways for Challenge participants, make sure to check in regularly and follow this blog so you don’t miss any!
  • If you have any questions tweet me @FallingForYA or e-mail Emisbookblog@aol.com

I should join one level, but decided not to push and I’m staying on the Gold for now. Hopefully I can read more than that, but it’s a good start.

Books Reads:

A December Bride (A Year of Weddings, #1) A January Bride (A Year of Weddings, #2) A February Bride (A Year of Weddings) A March Bride (A Year of Weddings) Killer Frost (Mythos Academy, #6) Misbehaving Bared (Club Sin, #2)

2014 Netgalley Reading Challenge

January 1, 2014 – December 31, 2014

I see Netgalley reading challenges all the time, but they are always monthly deals that come around at times when I just can’t participate. I couldn’t find one that spanned a whole year, so I decided to make one. So welcome to the first ever 2014 Netgalley Reading Challenge Signup post!

HOW IT WORKS

To sign up, just add your information to the linky list below. Afterwards, choose the difficulty level you want. Once January 1st, 2014 arrives, you can begin reading, any books read before will not count. You can continue to request galleys, or you can read the ones you already have. The point is to get your feedback ratio closer to the recommended 80%.Every 3 months, I will be posting an update on my own challenge which will also serve as a giveaway post. I will be running 4 giveaways through the year as incentives to be hitting your goals! You must have a post about the challenge which displays which level you have entered for that tracks what books you have read toward that challenge in order to enter the giveaways. You can format the post however you want, but you must include the challenge banner at the top, your challenge level somewhere within the post (you don’t have to use the level graphics), and that has at the very least a list of which books you have read.

CHALLENGE LEVELS

2014 Series Challenge @ Read.Sleep.Repeat.

Series Challenge Button take2

January 1, 2014 – December 31, 2014

How many of you have started a series, loved it and for some reason never continued? Who here is sick and tired of getting the judgey face because you haven’t read “that” series yet? How often have you said “I really want to read that series!” only to not even glance at it in the bookstore? By a show of hands how many of you have added an entire series to your Goodreads TBR shelf more than 3 months ago and STILL haven’t started yet?! The 2014 Series Challenge is your chance to take all those empty promises and make them real. This is a challenge for YOU, so you’ll set your pace and decide what you will read but I do have a few guidelines:

  • You have to FINISH the series
  • If the series isn’t complete yet, or will not be completed before December 1st, 2014 read up to the most recent book in said series.
  • Novellas count, but are optional.
  • HAVE fun
  • If you decide to break up with a series after book one, it does not count!
  • You do not have to START the series in 2014, you just have to FINISH it in 2014
  • Series that you started prior to 2014 are fine as long as you FINISH the series in 2014
  • The series has to have at least 2 books out prior to December 1st, 2014
  • Proof that you finished the book is required. It could be a full review, a mini review, or a rating with a few lines.
  • DNF’s do not count. PERIOD.

And thanks to Anya of On Starships and Dragonwings I’m going to sweeten the pot for you folks. Even though finishing a series is motivation enough for some of you, I know that 4 months in a lot of you will quit, and because of that I am implementing a badge system:

Bronze BadgeSilver Badge2Gold BadgePlatinum Badge

Hypothetically speaking. “Super Awesome Book #1″ comes out in December 2013, but “Super Awesome Book #2″ doesn’t come out until December 3rd, 2014, THAT DOES NOT COUNT TOWARDS YOUR SERIES CHALLENGE. The 2nd book in the series must be released BEFORE December 1st, 2014.

Let’s say I add the Incarnate series by Jodi Meadows. I would have to read all three books in the series in order for it to count for my series challenge goal.  If I read the novellas also then woohoo I just added some books to my GR yearly challenge goal.

Let’s say I decide I want to read The Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward. That series is 11 books in. If I read the first two and then say screw this, that would not count towards my series challenge. But it is two more books read this year so it’s still a win.

If I finish the Incarnate series, Everneath series, Divergent series and the Shatter Me series then I have earned the Silver Badge. I will be entered into a giveaway for a chance to win a book of my choice valued at no more than 15 bucks.

Each month I will post a report on the series I’ve completed for the previous month, and will add a linky so you may share your progress. And as an extra bit of motivation on March 30th, 2014 I will host the first of 4 twitter chats (more details to come closer to date). During each chat we’ll just have fun and talk about our progress. There could be a mini-giveaway, there could not be. You’ll have to participate to find out. ;) So go sign up! If you have any questions leave them in the comments and I’ll reply as soon as I can!

This reading challenge is hosted by Read.Sleep.Repeat.. For more information and to sign-up, please see this post.

I’m hoping to finish at least 20 series this year, between a few already started and some new ones. I’m not making a list right now. Let’s see later what to read.

Books Reads:

First Series: Night Huntress by Jeaniene Frost (3 novels and 1 novella)

This Side of the Grave (Night Huntress, #5) One Grave at a Time (Night Huntress, #6) Home for the Holidays (Night Huntress #6.5) Up From the Grave (Night Huntress, #7)

2014 Prequel & Sequel Challenge @ Novel Heartbeat and Writer Grrl Reads

January 1, 2014 – December 31, 2014

It’s time for another year of the Sequel Challenge! This year I’m changing it up a bit. I’ve adopted Melissa @Writer Grrl Reads as a wonderful co-host and we’ve decided to add Prequels to the mix as well, and make a few changes!

Welcome to the 2014 Sequel & Prequel Challenge, hosted by Novel Heartbeat and Writer Grrl Reads!  This year’s challenge is an expansion on the 2013 Sequel challenge.  We’ve compared our unbelievably long series TBR lists and come to the conclusion that we need a bit of extra help knocking those sequels of our TBRs and we’re sure that a few of you have the same problem!

The goal: To read as many prequels and sequels as you can. You set your goal at whatever number works for you.

Guidelines

  1. The challenge runs from January 1st to December 31st.
  2. Any books started before Jan. 1 will not count.
  3. All books in a series count for points (see below)
  4. Novellas count, either prequels or sequels (i.e. #0.5, #1.5, #2.5, etc.).
  5. Books can be of any publication date. They don’t have to be released in 2014.
  6. In order to get 10 points for a completed series, there must be at least 3 full-length books in the series.
  7. You can still get sequel points for a duology, you just can’t get the 10 bonus points for finishing it.
  8. Sign-ups will be open until December 1st, 2014.
  9. To join, add the URL of your challenge post to the linky widget. (If you’d like to wait, it’s ok to use your blog URL and send us your link when you get the post up)
  10. At the end of each month we will post a linky for you to add your sequel reviews to.  The linky will rotate between our blogs on alternate months, so you can link up at Novel Heartbeat at the end of January, March, May, July, September and November, and over at Writer Grrl Reads at the end of February, April, June, August, October and December.
  11. We will try to do some giveaways throughout the year for participants (as long as we can afford it), as well as some mini-challenges and read-alongs … so stay tuned for further details!
  12. There will be a giveaway at the end of the year for all participants who completed the challenge!

The Point System

For each prequel and sequel read this year, points will be awarded as follows:

  • 1 point for each prequel or sequel novella read and reviewed
  • 2 points for each full-length sequel read and reviewed
  • 10 points for completing and reviewing a full series (doesn’t require novellas)*
  • **You do not get points for the first book in a series

To get points, you must review the book/novella somewhere. If you want to earn points, please link up your reviews at the end of each month, and enter the number of points earned (we will give examples in the linky).  Each point earned is an entry into the giveaway at the end of the year for all participants who completed the challenge.  So, the more sequels you read, the better your chances of winning the giveaway!  Plus, we are also considering one prize for the “overachiever award” — the person who gets the most points!

*The 10 bonus points is for finishing a full series. That means that all books must be published (unless you got an advance reader copy early). i.e. If you are completely caught up on a series, and the next book is not releasing until 2015 (and you do not have an advance reader copy), that does not count toward the 10 bonus points.

So let this year be the year that we stop whining about how many sequels are sitting on our TBRs or cluttering up our shelves! Take control of your reading destinies and sign up to read with us!

I have a big pile of requested books for review, both from NetGalley and Edelweiss. For that reason I’ll join the biggest level Adept and will pledge to read and review at least four books for month. Sounds like a good number right?

Books Reads:

A December Bride (A Year of Weddings, #1) A January Bride (A Year of Weddings, #2) A February Bride (A Year of Weddings) A March Bride (A Year of Weddings) Killer Frost (Mythos Academy, #6) Misbehaving Bared (Club Sin, #2)
