Bout of Books 5.0

Bout of Books Read-a-Thon

Lately I’ve been in several read-a-thons but it’s so fun to join and see how people are spending their week reading. Since I’m usually reading around four books every week it’s no big deal for me to sign up and try to read more for one week.
The Bout of Books is sort like a ritual since I participated in all of them, usually my goals are way to high and RL gets in the middle of things so the results are not the best, but for the next week I’ll try something that worked now.
I pledge to read 2000 pages, instead of setting a goal for books since I never keep, usually change the book and things just don’t work. But 2000 sounds like manageable, maybe I can even upgrade if I get there soon enough.
You can find more informations about my readings on twitter, I’ll update everyday with the hashtag #boutofbooks, or follow me on goodreads since my feed will tell you about the books I’m reading and the word count. More information about the read-a-thon is here.

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal.  It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 13th and runs through Sunday, August 19th in whatever time zone you are in.  Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week.  There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 5.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. -From the Bout of Books 5.0 team

The button is a link and you can all join this fun idea from Vicky and Celine. I already participated in March and it was amazing the accomplishments that I made. Plus there are twitter parties and read-a-thons.

I guess I’m a little late but still on time. For this time I’ll try to read more, but mostly the books listed are part of a tour and are waiting on the TBR pile. There are a few rules from the boss ladies that I’m quoting here and my reading pile is up next.
Participation, guidelines:

✦ The challenge runs from 1 to 31 August, 2012
✦ Sign-ups are open until 15 August 2012. After that the linky list will be closed and participation in the challenges and giveaways won’t be possible for anyone who hasn’t previously signed up.
✦ To sign up, just fill in the linky form below. Link to your sign up post directly, please! The linky is the same for both our blogs, so you only have to sign up once.
✦ When you post your sign up post on your blog, either include the challenge button with your post or link it back to this article so that people know where to sign up. Thank you!
✦ Every book you received for review counts towards the challenge, both ebooks and hardback/paperback copies, including all genres and lengths.
✦ You don’t need to follow the two hosts in order to be able to sign up for the event (although it’s appreciated)

Book Blurb:

Life has taught Prince Vereham al a’Karim bin Hakar to control his emotions. Duty to his kingdom drives the enigmatic sheikh.

But one unexpected, intensely sexy encounter with inexperienced Samantha McLellan shakes Vere’s steely control. And when he discovers that Sam could be betraying his country, he decides to blackmail her–into being his mistress.

My Thoughts:

Well when I first started reading this book, I actually thought this was the second on the series, but is the last one, since there all different stories is ok, that I jumped the others.
Vereham has some well formed thoughts about how live and what to do in every situation and is kinda sad, because he doesn’t get a very good life, for him is all about duty and his job as sheikh, so one moment, a shared kiss changed everything. I didn’t really liked Vere from the first time I read about his strange considerations for his life.
I liked Sam, she has chosen a very hard occupation and accepted an even more difficult place to work. In a country where most men think the all the women should stay at home and take care of family.
She tried to make her work better and forget about that stolen kiss, but everything changed when Vere started thinking she was a spy and after a very steamy night on the desert he decided to make her a mistress for his pleasure only.
The book is interesting, but I know some people has issues with forced relationship and even thoughts about slaves, so beware that these is a bit more forceful than the regular, but there are no sexual assault.

Book Blurb:

Petra is betrothed–to rich, eligible Sheikh Rashid. But she plans to ruin her reputation so Rashid won’t want her. Blaize, a fellow guest at her hotel, agrees to be Petra’s pretend lover–though soon he’s taken her virginity!

Then Petra makes a shocking discovery. Blaize is actually none other than the man she’s supposed to be marrying–Sheikh Rashid!

My Thoughts:

I don’t about you guys but I feel in love with Penny Jordan’s books since the very first one and was so sad when I first heard that she passed away on new years.

So with that thought in mind I decided to read some of her books during this years. My first choice was her sheik’s series, because (A) I love these different and very alpha male, (B) those are one of my first harlequin books. Very special, right?

The book is about a betrothed couple. Petra decides to accept her grandfather invitation and spend some time on her family country. And there she hears a strange piece of information about a supposed marriage with bachelor Rashid, super rich and sexy guy.

So Petra decides to destroy her reputation but she did picked the perfect guy, because she is actually dating Rachid, except she doesn’t know that’s him.

That’s a story about fairytale comes true and all those things, because he’s almost a prince. The way he treats her is so sweet considering he’s definily alpha male. Just loved.

Book Blurb:

When Keri Daniels’ editor finds out she has previous carnal knowledge of reclusive bestselling author Joe Kowalski, she gives Keri a choice: get an interview or get a new job.
Joe’s never forgotten the first girl to break his heart, so he’s intrigued to hear Keri’s back in town–and looking for him. Despite his intense need for privacy, he’ll grant Keri an interview if it means a chance to finish what they started in high school.
He proposes an outrageous plan–for every day she survives with his family on their annual camping and four-wheeling trip, Keri can ask one question. Keri agrees; she’s worked too hard to walk away from her career.
But the chemistry between them is still as potent as the bug spray, Joe’s sister is out to avenge his broken heart and Keri hasn’t ridden an ATV since she was ten. Who knew a little blackmail, a whole lot of family and some sizzling romantic interludes could make Keri reconsider the old dream of Keri & Joe 2gether 4ever.

My Thoughts:

I loved Joe since the first moment I heard he was a reclusive author, but one thing was a bit too much. The book revolves around Joe and Keri trying to work things after their abrupt ending when high school was over.
First thing that I believed was strange is that when Keri left town she was actually going to college and this is an expected thing to do so why was Joe so heartbroken I don’t know.
Keri world is a bit crazy so when her boss send her in this interview, I actually believed she had cheated on him by the way they were acting. So from the start I not saying their feelings are wrong is just sounds way worst that is explained.
I liked the fact that one together they actually decided to talk about the past and why things turned out this way. But I was expecting some immature talk about love and sexual tensing, but they both seams to me very much like the HEA couple that we all love to read.
But I do love the Kowalsky! And the camping was hilarious. The kids are way too smart for that family and there’s also some romantic problems around the other brothers and sisters. So big applause for Shannon because I started the book with one feeling and finished wanting more from this family.

Book Blurb:

“A little finger isn’t properly dressed without a man wrapped round it…”

Clothing connoisseur Coreen Fraser’s film-star style never leaves her wanting for male attention. But sourcing costumes for a 1930s murder-mystery weekend stops being fun when she discovers she has to wear a tweed suit and sensible shoes

Meanwhile, Coreen’s best friend, Adam Conrad, has his own plans for the weekend. One moonlit kiss later, Coreen sees the truth: Adam’s the only man who knows the girl beneath the skyscraper heels and scarlet lipstick. Is she brave enough to invite him to kiss that lipstick off anytime he likes?

My Thoughts:

This is the second book I read from this series and I don’t know about the others but this two have the same plot. Boy and girl are friends for a long time and discover that fight the feeling for the sake of the said friendship is not good enough.
This girl was something really special, since Coreen owns a clotting store based on the 30s and she dresses like that since her teenage years. I discovered during the read that her mother was a singer so I kinda understand her aptitude for dressing up.
Adam was a bit slow since the start but once he actually saw he could lose Coreen to some rich guy with a very uptight life, lol, things changed very fast.
Loved some sentences and the end was to sweet. Really liked this original girl, Coreen was something out of a movie.

Book Blurb:

Could her best friend be her best match?
The one thing Chloe McDaniels has always depended on is her friendship with Simon Ford. Even if it’s been tough thinking of the gorgeous guy who makes her heart flutter as just a friend But now, with their upcoming high school reunion dredging up memories of bullies and broken hearts, she needs him more than ever.
As Chloe plans to unveil her new-and-improved self, Simon creates a plan of his own.

Step One: Show her that love is worth the risk.

Step Two: Give her the happy-ever-after she deserves.

My Thoughts:

Chloe McDaniels and Simon Ford has been friends since teeny school. She was the overweight geek and he was nerd and handy. They fight, get back together but things never evolved to more than friendship.
Now it’s time for the high school reunion and Chloe started to be nervous. She was never popular but worst of all, she is still a bit overweight and the mean girls will definily see that she’s still single and doesn’t have a high job.
But Simon is so good friend that he joins her into a crazy plan for find the perfect date and lose some weight. But wish the would she herself the way he does it and decides to help.
I found this book was more a fun to read than really a romance, some moments Simon tried to help her but he was afraid to lose their friendship over a shot in a romance that may break everything between them, so it took a bit of time for me to truly like the characters. But the romance part could be a little bit faster.
