Summary:

Kara Magari isn’t normal, even by Ourea’s standards—and in a world of shape-shifters and soul stealers, that’s saying something. To the royalty, she’s a loose cannon. To the masses, she’s a failure. But Kara’s arrival in Ourea started a war, and she’s going to end it.

An ancient isen named Stone takes an interest in Kara’s training, and it turns out he has more answers than he originally led her to believe. In an effort to unearth a secret that might end the bloodshed, Kara instead discovers an ugly truth about her family—and how much she has in common with an infamous mass-murderer.

Braeden Drakonin has slowly rebuilt his life after the betrayal that tore it apart. His father wants him dead, and frankly, his so-called allies wouldn’t mind that either. Private alliances are formed. Secrets are sold. Tension is driving the armies apart. A single battle will end this war, and it’s coming. Braeden may be a prince, but it will take more than that to survive. He must take the fight to his father’s door—and win.

Review by Melissa:

This book, THIS BOOK is oh-my-god AMAZING. Let me first start off saying that The Grimoire Saga is one of my top favorite fantasy series of all-times. It’s an epic adventure and I still can’t wrap my head around why isn’t everybody living and breathing this series? I mean, it has everything! There’s romance, adventure, magic and a kick-ass heroine involved with powerful allies, plus an adorable guy rooting for her.

I have stated before in my reviews for the first two books, Lichgates and Treason, that the world in here is so unique and interesting. It’s called Ourea, home of several kinds of races and species, each one ruled over by a Blood who can control all of their people with a single thought. In a quick run-down, this world has become corrupted and far from the beautiful peaceful place it was before. Blood Carden from the Stelian race wants to rule over the other Bloods, no matter the cost and it’s Kara, the vagabond and now powerful Isen, the one who can fight him to restore Ourea’s peace once and for all.

And everything is so complex. Not only she has to fight against Carden, but she also has to fight with the other Bloods, because everybody else wants to have the upper hand in the war and maybe even more than that. They are all fighting inner demons, and some giving in to them without a trace of sense.

Drifting a bit from the main plot of the storyline, I can’t forget to mention how glad I was to read about Kara and Braeden’s relationship. I can see a bright forever in their future if they can survive the war ahead. They will, won’t they? I desperately hope so!

I don’t want to spoil much more of this book’s awesomeness because this book deserves to be read without knowing what will happen. I would only like to add that Heritage is full of surprises that shift endlessly the possible outcomes of the war. I definitely didn’t see many things coming, like the ending. It left me intrigued, but content enough. I can’t wait to read  the 4th and final book, I’m certain it will be the next thing to epic.

P.S. You can read Lichgates, book one in the Grimoire Saga for FREE!

When a stalker ratchets up his attempts to get to her, cable sex talk show host Morgan O’Malley turns to Jack Cole-a self-proclaimed dominant- for help. Though Jack is a bodyguard, Morgan feels anything but safe in his presence. Because slowly and seductively, Jack is bringing her deepest fantasies to the surface. And when he bends her to his will, what’s more shocking than her surrender is how much she enjoys it and how she starts to crave his masterful touch. A willing player in Jack’s games, Morgan knows that his motives aren’t pure. But she has no idea how personal they are.

PhotobucketA couple of weeks ago I decided to read more erotica from my pile because I honestly missed some hard love. After reading Masters of Ménage series from Shayla Black and loving the way the pictures these relationships, I though to give a chance to the Wicked Lovers series.

Several bloggers consider this book the better of the series and after reading it I can understand how the feel so connected. It’s very hardcore and with several scenes of romantic encounters. These two sure made me go all crazy for a happy ending.

Morgan is hiding from a stalker when she met Jack, but she never expected him to made her feel some of her darkest dreams and even show her a different side of sex. The thing is Jack is a Master in BDSM and Morgan is interviewing him for the next season of her sex program and he brought alive her feelings and body like no one could ever do.

But Jack has a different agenda and he’s only interested in seducing Morgan so that she betray her Fiancé and dumps the guy. Jack was once a friend with the guy and he’s wife betray him, so is like an eye for an eye and Morgan is only stuck in the middle of this revenge plot. But the best part is that Jack is a bodyguard and can protect her from the crazy stalker while teaching her some sex stories.

The book is very sexual and the scenes were really well done, plus the action is a great deal and made everything more dangerous and fast. I liked how Morgan decided to trust her body and move to learn more about her sexuality and opened her mind. Also liked Jack, even thought he was stuck in a revenge, he’s character was very well done and he was still healing from the hurt. Great book.

“If you were expecting Prince Charming, I’m sorry. He’s with his boyfriend.”

Summary

Tess Jennings, now a member of the Memphis Police Department, is on her first cold case. The suspected suicide of Lizbeth Knapp ten years ago isn’t a theory her family accepts—they believe she was murdered.

But the case is only one of Tess’s worries. Ghosts are talking, and word of her abilities rapidly spreads. A dark ghost is terrifying the spirits of Memphis, and she must force the entity to cross over.

Tess doesn’t have to do this alone. Not only does she have her ghost-lover, Kipp McGowen, but the department has brought in a medium. Dane Wolfe might answer all her questions, but he also brings a world of trouble. Will Tess finally have all she’s ever wanted, or will everything she’s vowed to protect be ripped away?

My Thoughts

After reading the first book and loving Tess, the second book only made things better. Kipp is still around and Tess life is more grounded. She now has a job that make possible not only talking with ghost but also helping them cross over. She works for the Memphis Police in the cold cases area and her first job receiving a pay check made things really difficult for Tess and Kipp.

Tess and Kipp are still blissfully together and trying to enjoy this crazy relationship of them, but Tess boss decided she needs a little help discovering and using properly her gifts and now she has to work with Dane. I might say that I didn’t liked him since the first look, especially because he treated Kipp really bad.

This book was a little different from the first but following the same line, now the ghost are calling for help and the only person that can help them is Tess, plus she also discover several things about this world that she considered impossible, like witches and now her life depends on who she trust.

Dane actually helped but I think he has other plans and Tess is only part of the game, still hates how he treated Kipp and the investigation he wasn’t really helpful. Now Kipp is missing, mostly because of Dane  and something he saw but I believe is actually something darker, maybe Dane is involved maybe not. Who knows.

This book was more dangerous and has more action than the first one but the romance suffers a bit and now Tess and Kipp are separated and I can’t wait to see hoe Tess will discover a way to save him. plus the end was a real surprise for me.

I looked over my shoulder and spotted a middle-aged ghost dressed in a double-breasted black coat, white dress shirt, and fitted tanned breeches.

“I beg your pardon,” I snapped. “But I don’t deserve to be glared at—or spoken to in that nasty tone—when I’ve done nothing wrong.”

“You can hear me?” His eyes widened. “You can see me?”

“Yes I can.” I returned the glower he not-so-kindly offered me. “Why are you so rude?”

“I-I-I…”

“Classic.” I snorted. “The ghost is beside himself. Isn’t it supposed to be the live person who is shocked when they see a ghost?”

“You’re alive?”

Now he was being just downright mean. I shut off the faucet, and with the water dripping off my fingertips, I turned to face him. “Do I look dead to you?”

He gave me a once over with an expression that left something to be desired. “No, but why are you glowing?”

“Yes, well,” I wiped my damp hands on my skinny jeans, “that’s my ability.”

He examined my gold hue—or so I’d been told that is how it appeared—and by his huge eyes this revelation stunned him.

Summary

Ghosts harass and annoy Tess to save their souls. Sometimes she helps them. Other times she ignores them. But one ghost will give her no choice. Kipp, a former cop with the Memphis Police Department, will stop at nothing to gain her help, including using his ghostly charms to seduce her.

Tess must help solve the five-year-old cold case of Hannah Reid’s disappearance, because solving the case will save Kipp. But a bigger problem presents itself. Tess is falling in love with a ghost. Now she must decide. Keep Kipp forever, or find the killer.

My Thoughts

I found the summary for this book really different and after reading a review in Smitten With Reading, I decided to read it and discover all about Tess world. Ghosts are not usually my favorites paranormal creatures, because you run away from something that can teletransport and is already death, so they are pretty dangerous.

I liked Tess personality and how she tried to have a normal life and still help those lost ghost, because can you imagine being followed 24/7 and also have to work on a regular basis. Must be really difficult and after I read a date going wrong I can totally understand why sometimes she just wants some time for herself.

The book start with Tess running late and trying to get to work otherwise her boss will make her life miserable. She work as an event manager assistant, nothing even remotely close to ghosts, but they always find her, because of her aura. This day was when Kipp started following her.

But she didn’t acknowledge him and he got creative during the day. At night she had a date and he started saying bad works that only she could her it and made her totally hot and bothered. Bottom line, he got her attention and she went home alone.

Kipp was a detective and was killed following a lead in a cold case and now he’s trying to make Tess help him discover who the killer is. But there are two problems: 1. Tess doesn’t want to talk with anyone about her gifts, because they usually think she’s crazy and 2. The killer is most likely a cop.

So we followed Tess proving to a bunch of cops that she actually was talking with Kipp and I found these scenes hilarious, because the questions were so strange. The investigation was a little different then what I expected because they had to hide and discover things different ways. Also the host of the girl killed helped a lot.

But they most strange part for me was the sex, because he can’t touch her, and let’s face it is a little awkward not to kiss him and still act like a boyfriend. But I liked the investigation and the detectives were really funny to have around. They’re all friends and talk dirty with each other. Overall I liked the book.

Summary

Two Men on a Mission

Security Professionals Burke and Cole Lennox have shared women before but never meant to fall in love with one. Their lives are precarious, always on the edge of trouble. But Jessa Wade is too tempting, too perfect to let go. They’re on a dangerous mission, but they can’t help but get close to the beautiful, innocent artist. When their mission takes them to a foreign land, they reluctantly leave their love behind, promising to return for her one day.

A Woman with a Secret

After her lovers disappeared, Jessa Wade bravely moves on with her life, protecting her secret. But when she becomes the target of one of Burke and Cole’s enemies, the men leap into action, vowing to save their woman and to never leave again. As danger stalks all three, they must come together and face the mistakes of their past. On the run and out of time, Burke and Cole will fight for their future with Jessa. But will Jessa’s secret bring them together…or tear them apart?

My Thoughts

I liked the first book on this series and after reading the summary for the second decided to continue to read. The security men that helped discover the stalker in the first book are now the ones trying to fin the woman perfect for their lives.

Burke and Cole are brothers and lived their entire life together, working for the military and afterwards the opened a security team specialized in some dangerous jobs and in the middle of a mission they met and sleep with Jessa Wade. But nothing is that simple, so when they left to finish the job, things got complicated and now Jessa is in dangerous.

Burke and Cole have very different personalities. While Cole is more dark and dominant, Burke is more romantic and passionate. Sex is very complete while these two are together and that’s the reason Jessa decided to enjoy new years with a ménage and had to convince the two to take her virginity in every way possible.

They left and when they finale finished their mission and decided to come back, some lies made them leave and never return, but what they didn’t knew was that Jessa was pregnant and now they have a very cute baby boy and the some dangerous guy wants revenge by taking Jessa’s life, the brothers decide to solve this drama while trying to reconnect with Jessa and try to work on a future together.

I like how they decide to overcome the past and the fact that she toke some time to trust them after they lied and how the friends helped too. We got to see some new brothers that most likely will be on the next book.

Summary

Brothers Gavin, Slade, and Dex, fall hard for Gavin’s new secretary, beautiful Hannah Craig. The oil executives know they must give her time to get to know them before she can choose one . . . who will seduce the virgin and keep her for his own. But when a dangerous predator begins stalking the small-town beauty, they work together to protect her, abducting Hannah and spiriting her to an isolated hideaway. Once alone with her, none of them can contain their burning desire. Though Slade and Dex don’t mind sharing, Gavin’s tragic past has put distance between him and his brothers. Now, they’re hoping that not only will Hannah love them back . . . but maybe mend their fractured family.

After overcoming her initial fears, the men teach her wild pleasure she’s never imagined. She grows closer to each, their devotion melting her inhibitions. Hannah finds herself embracing love with all three men—and hoping she can heal Gavin’s wounded soul. But her new found happiness turns to terror when her stalker finds her. Will Gavin, Slade and Dex lose their woman to a menace that threatens everything they hold dear, or will they finally unite to make Hannah theirs forever?

My Thoughts

I was feeling like reading some erotica during June and this book has a very good cover, so I decided to pick it up and give it a shot. I wasn’t disappointed and even bought the second on this series.

I’ve heard great things about Shayla Black but this is my first book from her. She made several scenes were ménage was the principal and every time I was impressed by the details and how good the story was. Usually these relationships between several men and one women are a bit forced, but since the males are brothers I found it really nice the idea of sharing.

Hannah is the executive secretary of Black oil Ink, working for Gavin James but she also has a good and friendly relationship with his brothers, Slade and Dex. She’s very attracted with these guys and when a stalker start following and sending treats to her, the James brothers decide it’s the time to acknowledge their feelings and passion and find a way to protect and save Hannah fro this bastard.

I loved how honest the book was. Gavin was once married and struggles to accept his feelings and trust that Hannah actually loves him and wants his dark side. Slade and Dex are very dominate and they love a good play in bed, making this part more sexy and fun.

Also the investigation and the dangerous scenes made this more dark and emotional. It was a good book, with a lot of action and sex, but it has a nice story and made me want to read more from these authors.

Two is enough, but three could be everything.

Kit and Adam Jacobs know what their marriage needs—Gavan Karik. He’s the one man they both want and the only one who can make their relationship complete.

Making Gav part of the family comes with a price. Family, infidelity and self-worth issues plague Gav, but Adam and Kit are willing to tackle those issues if Gav is willing to commit.

For every problem they conquer, another one pops up. Not only are the three adults working to meld a broken family into one, they’re also struggling with a blackmailer threatening to out the two men’s sexuality and issues with the kids being mistreated at school. With each battle all three have to decide if the vision each sees for the future can match and if the reward is worth the fight.

Content Warning: Strong language, graphic sex, and explicit incidents of laundry washing within.

My Thoughts

From the moment I read the summary I just knew this book was exavtly what I needed at the time. It has everything to make a story, family, commitment, lots of sex and the characthers believe.

Gav has lots of troubles and not one of his relationships have a good ending, but Adam and Kit are two of the best friends he could have plus the sex between them is really great. Gav likes to be apart of some treesomes and sex with males is also good, but with Adam things are more intense and he’s afraid to lose the friendship over some egoistical feeling.

On the other end we have Adam and Kit want more than just some nights with Gav and both think together they are a full package. Adam is atracted to both females and males, but only after getting married that his life was better, since Kit understand and acept his wants and needs. Kit likes Gav but in a different level and more sexual than anything else, but she changed her feelings during the book.

I enjoyed this book and it’s more than just sex and hot scenes, the family is very important and I liked how they  handled some actions from close minded persons. It’s a different style of life and the made it work, very nice.

Book Blurb:

Something is hot in Seattle, and its not just the espresso…

Madison’s needs are simple. All she wants are two things: Make Ooo La Latte the newest trend in espresso, and seduce the sexiest cop in Seattle. But things aren’t going exactly as planned.

First, Gabe’s a little hung-up on the fact that she’s his best friends little sister, and he’s determined to keep his hands off.

Second, her shop gets robbed by the increasingly violent Espresso Bandit, and now she’s the only one who can identify him.

Gabe whisks her into hiding for her own protection, but soon finds his heart is under assault by the luscious–and persistent–Madison.

But no matter where they hide, danger follows. On such dangerous grounds, the trick will be to live long enough to keep the flame alive.

My Thoughts:

I didn’t like Maddie and in some moments I really thought she was nothing more than an spoiled brat, because she kept going at the thought that Gabe couldn’t resist her just because she wanted a rebound sex, but come on, he is her brother best friend and a police officer with a straight sense of right and wrong.

I liked Gabe on the other and he’s past is a little dark, and that part made the book more enjoyable, knowing that he was trying to go forward having so many bad thoughts. He’s right, and honorable and kinda deserved a better women, because Maddie was just so wrong.

There’s also a bandit trying to kill Maddie and her brother ask Gabe’s help to keep her save and try to arrest the Espresso Bandit.

Excerpts:

Maddie laughed as she bantered cheerfully with the customer, and then she waved goodbye.

“Jeez, we barely get a second to eat, do we?” She grinned and walked past him to the back room again, plopping herself down in the chair.

“I feel like some kind of celebrity,” she said breathlessly, her cheeks flushed. “Maybe getting robbed was a good thing. Business has been great.”

What? He narrowed his eyes, annoyance drawing his mouth into a frown. She had to be joking. “I hope you’re kidding.”

“Well.” She blushed, but raised her chin. “I mean, of course it was a bad thing. But no amount of money could have bought this kind of advertising.”

He leaned forward and looked her straight in the eyes. “He would have killed you, Maddie. That’s not worth selling a few extra mochas. It’s not a good thing that you got robbed.”

“But he didn’t kill me, Gabe.” She folded her arms across her chest and gave him a defiant glance. “I’m fine. I’ve got round-the-clock protection, and soon you’ll have the Bandit. If my business profits from this, I’m not going to complain.”

She tossed her head and went to the doorway to look out front.

Gabe blinked, made himself count to ten. He kicked his feet up on the desk, smashing the empty chowder bowl between his hands. He tossed it into the garbage can a few feet away, his jaw tight.

“Shit, Maddie. For a while, you had me convinced that you’d grown up.”

“Grown up?” She turned around, her expression taut with resentment. “I’ll have you know—”

The bell dinged, signaling another customer.

“Never mind.” She gave him an overly sweet smile. “I have another supportive customer to attend to. They just adore me and my shop now.”

“Don’t go up there without me.” He jerked his legs off the desk, but wasn’t fast enough. She’d already rounded the corner.

Damn it. He strode after her. He should have known better than to have gotten sexually involved with her. Maddie Phillips was still as spoiled and naïve as ever. Maybe more so.

Gabe!

The hysteria in her tone nearly catapulted him around the corner, just as a gunshot sounded and Madison screamed.

Book Blurb:

Emory Maxwell has come home to the small town of Sweetness, Georgia, with one goal in mind–to get his childhood sweetheart Shelby Moon to marry him. They’ve been in love with the second grade, but Shelby’s father is determined to keep his daughter in Sweetness, not moving around the country as a soldier’s wife. No matter what she chooses, Shelby knows she’ll hurt one of the men she loves.

But when a tornado rips through town, will she and Emory lose their chance to be together forever?

Get ready to fall in love with the town of Sweetness, Georgia, in this prequel to Stephanie Bond’s Southern Roads trilogy.

My Thoughts:

This is the prequel for the Southern Roads series and we get to met Sweetness, a small town in Georgia that looks to be stuck in time.

Emory Maxwell and Shelby Moon were childhood friends and now are dating, but since Emory joined the Army and Shelby started working for her father in a groceries store, their relationship started showing signs of breaking.

Emory takes a leave for fives to ask Shelby hand in marriage and that’s when all hell break lose. A tornado swiped through Sweetness and destroyed everything but thanks to Emory no life was harmed and this nature event helped mend the relationship.

I liked Emory and this story was to short, it could be a full out book that it would be a best way to meet the characters. I understand Shelby way of thinking but her father seams to be on a different century and he was actually making his daughter miserable, but only him couldn’t see it.

Can a one-night stand turn into happily ever after?

Bar owner Kevin Kowalski is used to women throwing their phone numbers at him. Even if lately he’s been more interested in finding Mrs. Right than Miss Right Now. Enter Beth Hansen.Kevin and Beth may have started out all wrong, with an impromptu passionate encounter at a wedding, followed by a walk of shame. Yet Kevin knows there’s more to their relationship than a one-night stand. Especially when Beth turns up pregnant.Kevin may be ready for the "next step," but Beth doesn’t want a relationship with a former playboy, however irresistible he might be. And it’s going to take a lot to convince her to go on a second date with the father of her child….

My Thoughts:

This is the second story in the Kowalsky Family and after loving the first I decided to read this one too. And it was perfect, a sweet romance with a little spicy moments plus a pregnancy. I don’t know about you guys but I love when there’s a baby in the middle.

Kevin is a womanizer and a fun character that suffered on life and now all he wants is enjoy his moments, but after a long time single, he’s actually considering marriage to the right one of course. And that’s when Beth came along on the bar.

After a special steamy night with a bit of confusion, Beth decided to tell Kevin about the pregnancy and was surprised when he was all on board after their nightly encounter.

I loved Kevin but Beth found problems where they didn’t exist so their relationship could be better if she at least trusted on him. It was fun to see the other couples and the baby made everyone happy at the end, even if Beth was a bit off for me.

Every time the New England Patriots chalked one up in the win column, Kevin Kowalski got laid.

A score for them was a score for him. Not that he was always looking for a companion on a Sunday night, but the offers weren’t scarce. As he slid a foaming mug of Sam Adams down the polished surface of the best damn sports bar in New Hampshire’s capital city—which just happened to list his name as proprietor—he caught a blonde watching him. The Pats were lining up at first and goal on the big-screen, but her eyes were on him, letting him know the New England quarterback wasn’t the only guy in scoring position.

But tonight he was having a hard time concentrating on the blonde with the chemically enhanced lips, surgically enhanced boobs and alcohol-enhanced sex drive giving him the you could go all the way look.

He was too busy keeping his eye on the brunette at the other end of the bar. It wasn’t just the fact she was pretty, with a mess of dark brown hair falling to her shoulders and eyes to match. Or that her fisherman’s sweater and jeans hugged her body in all the right places, though that certainly didn’t hurt.

Mostly he was keeping an eye on her because her date was going downhill in a hurry. Either the guy in the uptight, button-down shirt and khakis had had a couple before he walked into the bar or he had the alcohol tolerance of a high-school freshman, because it had only taken a couple shots of scotch for drunken-asshole syndrome to kick in.

Now there was some body language going on between the couple and her body wanted away from his body. His fingers would start looking for a soft place to land. She’d deflect. Rinse and repeat.

Jasper’s Bar & Grille had three rules. No smoking. No throwing beer mugs, even at the Jets fans. And when a lady said no, it meant no.

The Patriots scored and the glasses shook on the shelves as a triumphant roar filled Jasper’s. The blonde hopped up and down on her barstool, her boobs testing the bungee ability of her bra straps. And the jerk with the wandering hands raised his empty glass to wave it in Kevin’s general direction.

He made his way down to the couple, but ignored the glass. “We won’t be serving you any more alcohol, but you’re welcome to a coffee or a soda, on the house.”

Uptight Guy’s face turned as red as a Budweiser label and Kevin sighed. He was going to be one of those guys. Jasper’s had a zero-tolerance policy, so as the guy’s ass lifted off the stool, Kevin gave Paulie the signal and watched her roll her eyes as she reached for the phone.

“I’m not drunk and I want another goddamn scotch!”

The woman put her hand on the guy’s arm, as if to push him back onto his seat. “Derek, let’s—”

“Who the hell are you to tell me I can’t have another goddamn scotch?”

Uptight Guy’s bad-ass act was diluted a bit by the weaving. “I’m the guy who reserves the right to refuse you service.”

“Beth, tell this asshole to gimme another drink.”

Kevin shook his head. “You’re cut off.”

It happened fast. Kevin wasn’t sure if the guy was throwing a punch or reaching in to grab him by the shirt, but his elbow hit his date and knocked her backward. She didn’t fall, thanks to the guy sitting next to her who was pleasantly surprised to find himself with an armful of brunette, but it distracted Kevin enough to allow the guy to land a weak, glancing blow to his jaw.

Uptight Guy, who the woman had called Derek, sucked in a breath, as if he just realized what he’d done. Kevin watched as the guy’s fight-or-flight instinct kicked in and wasn’t surprised when he chose flight. Sadly for him, Kevin was six-two and had some experience collaring yahoos, whether they were crooks back when he wore a badge or his four rowdy nephews. He reached across the bar, grabbed the guy by the scruff of the neck and yanked him back.

Derek was struggling like a pickerel on a hook and, when Kevin’s grip almost slipped off the guy’s collar, he jerked his left arm hard. Derek’s head snapped around and his nose exploded on the edge of the bar. Oops.

The guy screamed like a girl…and the crowd went wild. Jasper’s didn’t attract a real rough crowd, but everybody loved a good fight.

“Good fight” being relative, of course. Derek cupped his hands over his face, trying to staunch the blood, and made a high-pitched keening sound that made more than a few of his patrons wince.

“Shut up or I’ll knock your ass out,” Kevin yelled at the guy which, of course, got everybody in the bar chanting. Do it…do it…do it…

“Oh my God, his nose!” Derek’s date untangled herself from her neighbor and grabbed a couple of napkins off the bar. She tried to get to Derek’s nose, but he kept pushing her away.

The crowd quieted when a couple of police officers walked through the front door. Derek’s keening changed pitch when he saw them, from a pain-filled squeal to an oh shit desperation.

“Hey, Kowalski,” the older of the two cops said.

“Hey, Jonesy. Your old man like those tickets?”

“Are you kidding me? Tenth row, fifty yard line? He was in heaven. Said to tell you thanks and give you his best.”

“Glad to do it,” he said easily, still holding on to Derek’s collar. He fostered a friendly relationship with the local PD, not only because he’d been on the job once down in Boston, but because any good businessman did. Especially businessmen who served alcohol. “Got a live one here.”

“What happened to him?”

“Hit his face on the bar. You know how it is.”

In the split second between Kevin releasing him and Jonesy grabbing for his wrists, Derek stupidly decided to make a break for the door.

The rookie made a move to stop him at the same time Beth did. She accidentally—at least it looked accidental—tripped him and the young cop fell on his face. Jonesy jumped over his partner and did the nearing-retirement version of a sprint after Derek.

Beth was practically hyperventilating.

The rookie scrambled to his feet as Jonesy took down his prey in a half-ass diving tackle that made the crowd roar in approval. Rookie had his handcuffs out, but it looked like Uptight Guy was going all in on a resisting charge.

“Why are you doing this to him?”

Kevin’s gaze swiveled to the woman, who looked almost as pissed as her date. “I didn’t do jack to him, lady. Did you forgot the part where he hit you?”

“He didn’t hit me. He bumped me trying to hit you.

Yeah, that was so much better. “How about the groping? How many times were you going to tell him no?”

She actually rolled her eyes at him. “I had it all under control.”

“No, now it’s all under control.”

“Look, it’s not what you…forget it. You have to help him, though.”

Since Derek had two hundred pounds of veteran cop kneeling on his head while the rookie tried to secure the cuffs, there wasn’t much Kevin could do for him, even if he wanted to. Which he didn’t.

“It’s not what you think,” she insisted.

“I’m going to sue you for everything you’ve got, asshole,” Derek screamed over his shoulder. “And you, you dumb bitch, you’re fired!”

Oops. Kevin looked at Beth. “I thought he was just a bad date.”

She climbed on to a stool and dropped her forehead to the bar with a thunk. “You just cost me my job.”

Only several years of fine-tuning his brain-to-mouth filter behind the bar kept him from pointing out she was maybe better off without it. “Want a beer?”
