Summary:

Dez wasn’t just Jasmine’s crush. A gargoyle Warden like Jas, he helped her come to terms with her destiny—fending off demons and maintaining balance between good and evil. He was her everything…right until the moment he disappeared without a trace. It didn’t help that Jas’s father had just announced that she and Dez would one day be mated. Hard not to take that personally.

And now he’s back, three years older, ten times hotter, ready to pick up exactly where they left off. But Jas isn’t taking that risk again. Dez has seven days to meet all her conditions and earn back her trust. Seven days filled with terrifying danger and sweet temptation. Seven days to win her heart—or shatter it all over again…

Review:

I decided to read this novella closer to the release of the first book, because if I liked the waiting would be smaller. But this couple was cute and they made a great adventure together. I liked knowing more about Dez and even some of the stories behind this world.

For me the best part was that Justine and Dez knew each other for years, so in reality they were half in love before the mating. Dez needed to share more about his disappearing act, but their time together was really nice.

This was just a prequel but I really liked the way some of the information was shared. This is a completely different story and I loved the gargoyles, they are fun and very normal, after this first glimpse of the new world, I have to say Jennifer caught me again.

Review: Opal by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Opal (Lux, #3)

No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well… There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different… And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we’re stronger… and they know it.

The first thing that amaze me in this series are the names, so far all of them are stones and start with an O, really impressing and the best part is those stones are actually important in the story.

Daemon is still amazing and very modest, but now we have Dawson back and everyone is worried about the DOD showing up and how to bring Beth back. Things are crazier than usual, but it’s to be expected with Dawson around.

I loved the first few books in this series, but to me this was has a few slow parts and sometimes lots of actions, so it made me realize, that it could have fewer pages, but a more linear story.

Ghosts from the past book decided to return and most of them wants something from Katy, blackmail is the key on this book and I was not happy with Dawson being like an addict and not thinking through at most book. Daemon is as always trying to be the superhero and save everyone.

I liked but it’s not my favorite, plus it ended in a cliff, witch I hate be the way!

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…
Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.
Something worse than the Arum has come to town…
The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we’re linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there’s this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that’s possible. Against all common sense, I’m falling for Daemon. Hard.
But then everything changes…
I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?
No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

Since last year I’ve been hearing great thoughts about Obsidian and I had the chance to read last month. I simply loved!! The action, the romance drama and the almost death of certain characters. I also liked the prequel and I found it very important to fully understand how bad the DOD can be and why Dawson disappeared.

This is the second book in the series and I’m very happy to say that the wait was not very long since it took me forever to start the first one to begin with. But I couldn’t wait to hear more from Daemon and all around the blogosphere they were talking about him.

So I bough on the release day and read last weekend, during the read-a-thon. I loved the name and how the author continued with the stones as the main factor and I have no idea how she found so many with an O.

The story started right where Obsidian ended and Daemon is trying to work in a relationship with Katy, but she thinks is only this new link between them that is messing with his emotions. He gets really romantic during some parts of the book and she gets more in love with him, plus he’s not the douchebag from the first book. Another plus.

But not everything is great and there’s a new guy in town. And he knows all about Katy new power, strange right, but she trust him and pushes Daemon away. This I really didn’t like it. She knows nothing about the guy and he proves to be dangerous several times, but she still trust him. So not cool.

The DOD is in town and things are really stressing, especially when Katy sees Bethany one day. Secrets started to be discovered and Katy’s life is once again in dangerous. But Daemon was so sweet on the end that everything can be forgiven.

I liked this book better then the first one, because the characters showed more feelings and sounded better, Katy can work in the police sometimes because she sure can find things when she wants.

The last thing Dawson Black expected was Bethany Williams. As a Luxen, an alien life form on Earth, human girls are…well, fun. But since the Luxen have to keep their true identities a secret, falling for one would be insane.
Dangerous. Tempting. Undeniable.
Bethany can’t deny the immediate connection between her and Dawson. And even though boys aren’t a complication she wants, she can’t stay away from him. Still, whenever they lock eyes, she’s drawn in.
Captivated. Lured. Loved.
Dawson is keeping a secret that will change her existence…and put her life in jeopardy. But even he can’t stop risking everything for one human girl. Or from a fate that is as unavoidable as love itself.

Photobucket

My first after Obsidian ended was: I need more from Daemon and them I found this prequel, it’s not a full book but it’s bigger than just a novella. There’s not much of Daemon and it’s before Katy moved to town.

This is the romance between Dawson and Bethany. When Obsidian started we discovered they were death in a confrontation with the Arum, but this book is more about their romance and how Dawson fought the family to be with the person he loved.

There’s also a moment when Bethany almost died and he Dawson had to bring her back to life, but they after this so we don’t know much about it. But I have some ideas of what may have happened.

I liked the little I saw from Bethany and Dawson sounds way better than Daemon at first sight. He’s fun and young and carefree.

I liked this little book, but I need to know more about Dawson, because I have a feeling he’s coming back.

Summary

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.

My Thoughts
On the same weekend I read two books showing aliens and discovered that is fascinating to create this new humanoids and try to show them as equals to us. Obsidian shows exactly this and the government knows about the and chose to watch and let them live among us.
Katy’s mother decided to move to a new town three years after her husband died and start a new life. Katy is seventeen and is starting her last high school year so this moving was not very good for her, especially when she goes to a little town is West Virginia.
So her mom pushed her to met new friends and she tried with the wrong person. One day she knocked on Daemon door and he’s super grumpy. So from the first moment we know he’s not very friendly and Katy discovered he’s also super hot.
Question: Why they have to be gorgeous? Daemon and Katy started going out some times, but not as in dating, more like his sister was pushing him to it. Dee is Katy best friend and she wants to continue this way, but Daemon can’t stop being bad.
Weird things started happening and one night Katy was assaulted because some crazy guy was after “them”, she had no idea what he wanted but he’s just one more strange thing, along with lighting and a girl disappearing one year before she moved.
I’m going to jump the spoilers and say this book was a fast read for me. Can’t tell what was more intriguing: the mysteries, Daemon’s attitude or Katy investigation. I loved Katy personality and of course the fact that she is a blogger. Daemon wasn’t so bad after I realized he’s reasons. Let’s face it, he’s cute with his sister and it’s always protector with the other Lux people.
I loved the book, the writing, the story was captivating and kept me wanting to read more and now I can’t wait for the next book, but already dived into Shadows.

Book Blurb:

For three years, Alexandria has lived among mortals—pretending to be like them and trying to forget the duty she’d been trained to fulfill as a child of a mortal and a demigod. At seventeen, she’s pretty much accepted that she’s a freak by mortal standards… and that she’ll never be prepared for that duty.

According to her mother, that’s a good thing.

But as every descendant of the gods knows, Fate has a way of rearing her ugly head. A horrifying attack forces Alex to flee Miami and try to find her way back to the very place her mother had warned her she should never return—the Covenant. Every step that brings her closer to safety is one more step toward death… because she’s being hunted by the very creatures she’d once trained to kill.

The daimons have found her.

My Thoughts:

I just loved this cover, the green really made her stand out and this series follows on this line with strong colors and beautiful flowers.

For a prequel this was a very good book, explained the story in short chapters and even showed how Alexandria is in the normal world, but I got the sense that she’s just like Rose from Vampire Academy. A mix from two races, used only for battles and strong beyond what people think.

So far I’m enjoying this series, my first book from this author but I like her storytelling way.
