Biting Bad (Chicagoland Vampires, #8)

Advice:

Due to its strong sexual content, this novel is recommended for readers older than 18.

I was expecting more from this book. More drama and more fight. The story was build on the last book and I was waiting for a big confrontation now with several deaths, but this time things were quiet and a bit save for me. Merit showed a softer side and I believe more in her when she lost a few rounds. Because let’s be honest she doesn’t even have one year as a vampire and couldn’t possibly win against a century old SOB from the PG.

Her relationship with Ethan sounded more natural in this book and I liked the slower pace. Plus we got to see some really romantic scenes between these two. There were some sad moments too, but Merit handled the investigation really well as always and was a breaking point in a very dangerous moment. I liked her attitude and she’s learning more about being a vampire. This book showed more Merit and Ethan trying to save the vampires so there wasn’t much fight, but I liked the change. Just think this should had happened in a earlier book.

Review: House Rules by Chloe Neill

House Rules (Chicagoland Vampires, #7)

At the tender age of 27, Merit became a sword-wielding vampire. Since then, she’s become the protector of her House, watched Chicago nearly burn to the ground, and seen her Master fall and rise. Now she’ll see her mettle—and her metal —tested like never before.
It started with two . . . Two rogues vanishing without a trace. Someone is targeting Chicago’s vampires, and anyone could be next. With their house in peril, Merit and her Master, the centuries old Ethan Sullivan, must race to stop the disappearances. But as they untangle a web of secret alliances and ancient evils, they realize their foe is more familiar, and more powerful, than they could have ever imagined.

This book was different and the end actually left me satisfied, but Merit is always juggling several problems at the same time and Ethan for once was not the understand vampire so a bit of friction we saw in this relationship.

I liked the ending of Biting Cold and thought this book was going to be a huge battle, but the vampires decided to be strong and a few bastards are trying to take Cadogan House, so now Merit needs help to secure the house and also she’s investigation a few deaths of Rogues in the area.

What started as a nice book, got a little strange in the middle and a bit rushed at the end. I liked the idea of Merit pursuing a different path and trying to control the GP, but at the same time it was strange seeing Ethan with that bitch and not believing Merit.

So the actual deaths were like a second story and I thought it could have been bigger and more explored. I liked the fact we got an ending and everything is stale in Chicago again.

Review: Biting Cold by Chloe Neill

Biting Cold (Chicagoland Vampires, #6)

Turned into a vampire against her will, twenty-eight-year-old Merit found her way into the dark circle of Chicago’s vampire underground, where she learned there was more to supernaturals than met the eye—and more supernaturals than the public ever imagined. And not all the secrets she learned were for sharing—among humans or inhumans. Now Merit is on the hunt, charging across the stark American Midwest, tailing a rogue supernatural intent on stealing an ancient artifact that could unleash catastrophic evil on the world. But Merit is also the prey. An enemy of Chicagoland is hunting her, and he’ll stop at nothing to get the book for himself. No mercy allowed.

No rules apply. No lives spared. The race is on.

This series is a constant surprise and I never know what is going to happen to Merit or Chicago, but strange things keep popping up and as always Merit has to manage things because otherwise the humans will blame the vampires and she’s a sentinel.

So after all the crazy adventures and some very disturbing things from Drink Deep I jumped right into this book wanting more of Ethan and of course trying to figure out if things were back to normal or what is going on.

The story followed right after Drink Deep and Ethan is afraid to hurt Merit, but at the same time they need to protect the Maleficium and some very dark creatures appeared out of nowhere and Merit has to find a way to destroy and save the city.

I really liked this book and I’m hooked once again on this series, plus Ethan is now back and very powerful. Can’t wait to see what Cadogan house is going to do on the next book.

Review: Drink Deep by Chloe Neill

Drink Deep (Chicagoland Vampires, #5)

Clouds are brewing over Cadogan House, and Merit the vampire can’t tell if this is the darkness before the dawn, or the calm before the storm. With the city itself in turmoil over paranormals and the state threatening to pass a paranormal registration act, times have never been more precarious for the vampires. If only they could lay low for a bit…

Then magic rears its ugly head when Lake Michigan turns black. The mayor insists it’s nothing to worry about, but Merit knows a panic is coming. She’ll have to turn to friends old and new to find out who’s behind this, and stop them before it’s too late for both the vampires and humans.

This series is one of my favorites, but the ending of Hard Bitten left me in tears and I honestly didn’t knew if I would ever touch the next book. I confess that I pre-ordered and downloaded on release day, but didn’t even touch it. After reading a few reviews I was completely torn if I would try or not, so I decided to wait for book 6 release so I wouldn’t be completely torn on the end.

I have to admit this series is addictive and I devoured this book in one day. The first few chapters were okay for me, because I wasn’t really used to Merit this upset and sad, but now things are once again super bad and there’s another strange thing happening in Chicago.

So Merit goes off to investigate and now she’s using Jonah as a partner, but things are so weird and is really difficult to really discover who is responsible for the sky turning red and the lake vacuum.

Can I say it was a bit devastating discovering who was responsible for everything and taking in consideration it could be stopped earlier if people actually cared to look at some details. But I was so happy when Ethan returned that everything else just didn’t mattered anymore.

So this book, totally brought me back to the series. Ethan is back and Merit is alive, but Cadogan House is having some problems with GP. And of course things are not looking good for the future.

Why I Started This Book:

I discover this book reading a review in a blog, and since it was about vampires managed to go in my wishlist. The heroin being a female vampire is a plus along with her sense of humor.

Summary:

First in a brand new series about a Chicago graduate student’s introduction into a society of vampires.

Sure, the life of a graduate student wasn’t exactly glamorous, but it was Merit’s. She was doing fine until a rogue vampire attacked her. But he only got a sip before he was scared away by another bloodsucker-and this one decided the best way to save her life was to make her the walking undead.

Turns out her savior was the master vampire of Cadogan House. Now she’s traded sweating over her thesis for learning to fit in at a Hyde Park mansion full of vamps loyal to Ethan “Lord o’ the Manor” Sullivan. Of course, as a tall, green-eyed, four-hundred- year-old vampire, he has centuries’ worth of charm, but unfortunately he expects her gratitude- and servitude. But an inconvenient sunlight allergy and Ethan’s attitude are the least of her concerns. Someone’s still out to get her. Her initiation into Chicago’s nightlife may be the first skirmish in a war-and there will be blood.

Characters:

My Thoughts:

Some Girls Bite is the first book from Chicagoland Series. The principal character is named Merit, and she has to dealt with her new life as a vampire after an attempt of murderer on college campus.

Merit was studying late when she was attacked by a vampire. The is the human already know that vampire mingle amonst them, they’ve been ‘outed’ for a couple of months.

Ethan is a Master for Cadogan housen, a sort of sorority for vampires, and he is the one who saved Merit, since only Masters can creat new vampires.

After her transformation she has to dealt with different things, following Ethan rules being the principal one, since she didn’t chose to be a vampire.

Merit is a very important character, she has pride, a good sense of humor, and can work in a good leather vest.

She becames a Sentinel and discover that her attack wasn’t the only one, and a vampire without rules is killing humans, so she does anything to catch him.

You Might Enjoy This Book If:

Favorite Quotes:

He’s twenty-nine. And what did you think he was going to look like?”
She shrugged.
“You know-old. Grizzled. Long white beard. Scruffy robes. Loveable, smart, a little absent minded.”
I bit back a grin.
” I said ‘sorcerer,’ not ‘Dumbledore.’ So he’s hot. It could be worse.”

As we left the kitchen, I asked, “Can I hold your sword today?”
Catcher glanced back over his shoulder and lifted a brow.
The sword,” I corrected. “The sword.”
We’ll see.”

Stop. That was a mistake. It shouldn’t have happened.”
No?” “No.”
I could offer you more.”
What?”
Power. Access. Rewards. You’d need be available only to me.”
Are you asking me to be your mistress?”
Yes.”
Oh, my God.”
Is that a yes?”
No, Ethan, Jesus. Definitely not.”
